It could be due to the strawberries or due to chemicals of pesticides, if they have been used.

Anti-histamines are avilable over-the-counter.

Dear Dr Aparna,

Thank you for your detail explanation. He told me he ate alot of strawberries for the past 2 weeks. Is this the possible cause?

Can anti-histamines be bought in drug stores or it has to be prescribed by doctors?

He is currently staying in England

Hi,
Allergic rashes can be hives or they can present as itchy red bumps over the whole body or certain parts. The pattern of distribution as well as the area affected depends on the individual's genetic predisposition.

In your friend's case, going by your description it could be case of hives. Hives are red, itchy welts or swellings on the skin that often come in clusters.
Hives usually appear suddenly and go away on their own in a matter of days, hours, or even minutes.

When an irritant comes into contact with your body, your immune system sends chemicals, including histamine, to fight it. The sudden spike in histamine levels can cause an outbreak of hives/rash in the upper layers of the skin.
The common trigger factors are Foods (commonly eggs, shellfish, nuts, berries, dyes, or other additives), drugs (any drug  has the potentail to cause it), Insect bites or stings and exposure to heat, cold, or sunshine can cause them.

Other potential triggers include physical exertion or exercise, stress, illness, chemicals, cosmetics, textiles, and pressure from materials rubbing against the skin.

Treatment is with anti-histamines like Cetrizine/Loratidine which will help with the rash.
Cold compresses and  a cool shower as well as application of Calamine lotion can help in alleviating the discomfort caused by the itchy feeling.
