Ketoconazole 2% not very effective on worsoning dandruff.

The dandruff is better when I cut hair short.  Sometimes the itching is so irritating that I want to cut hair off!

Hello and welcome to the forum.  Thanks for your post.  Ketocanazole shampoo is for fungal issues of the scalp.    https://www.healthline.com/health/ketoconazole-shampoos  While it helps many people that have flaking of the scalp, it also can cause skin irritation for some.  Did a doctor recommend it?  A dermatologist is good to talk to about issues related to one's scalp and direction on how to treat it.  You may be allergic to ketocanazole shampoo as severe itching is a sign of that.  A lot of times, a tar based shampoo can be effective for dandruff.  Here's a guide that goes through options.  https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/dandruff/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20353854  But your best bet at this point is to speak to a dermatologist.

Thank you for the response and the forum!  However, I could have supplied more detail (yes, a doctor prescribed it) and I had been using a tar-base shampoo for decades until it seemed to lose its mojo about a year ago.  I also have played around with how often to use the Keto-shampoo but with no improvement.  I'll check out the guide and find myself a new doctor!
Thank you for the additional information.  What dermatologists often can do verses our home remedies can be signficant so yes, I think see a dermatologist would be a great idea.  Let us know the outcome!
