Lip Discoloration

I've had lip discoloration issues for years. When I was younger, I fell off of a bed and bursted my lip. Once my lip bottom lip started peeling, it never stopped. Fifteen years later, it's still peeling. Not only that but the discoloration seems to be expanding. I'm not sure what to do about this problem. I've tried using concealer but I can't hide it forever. I'm tired of people asking if I'm a smoker, when I'm not, and feeling ashamed when I kiss someone without concealer. What should I do? Get skin graphing? I need something that will really work.

You could ask you prescribe you one, and also something for local application on the lips.

Thank you for your comment! I am currently 21 and I don't remember a time when I did not have chapstick for fear of dry lips. I am not sure what I have exactly, I just know that I would love to stop the peeling and minimize the scarring as best I can. I am not familiar with B2 supplements; what are they? and how may I attain them? I have seen other people with my issue, but unlike me, they are smokers. I have never smoked a day in my life and my lips have continued to peel into a red scar. Thank you for your help an any more insight from you and others is definitely welcome!

Hi,

Since when are you having the symptoms? What is your age?

Some causes could be lip biting, lip licking, Vit.B2 deficiency, smoking, overexposure to sun and ill fitting dentures or even trauma - as in your case. In extreme cases, this could be due to bacterial or fungal skin infection.

You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.

If you have cracks at the corner of your mouth it indicates B2 deficiency in this case you need to take B2 supplements.

If the symptoms still persist, consult your skin specialist or dermatologist.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
