Picked off surface of mole.

Hi I have a slightly raised mole on my stomach and recently I had noticed there was a black spot or small black line on the surface of it. I picked at the surface of it and it came off. The mole is still there so I didn't pick at the mole just something that seemed to be on the surface. I'm now thinking it could have been an ingrown hair as I think I now see a hair on it that wasn't there before but i'm not 100% sure. Should I be worried at all about this? As I understand if it was melanoma then I would have had to pick off the entire mole to get rid of it.

It is probably nothing but if I had a mole that was starting to bleed I would see a doctor and get it removed.  If it bleeds they will take it off.  Insurance may or may not pay for it - they don't like to pay for much anymore.

Also, is it even possible to pick of melanoma?
