Psoriasis Nightmare

I have had psoriasis for years.  I have used every lotion and potion invented.  Until the last 6 months I thought I was under control.  Since that time it has become horribly painful and is covering a greater part of my body.  My derm told me to find a specialist.  My podiatrist told me to find a dermatology pathologist.  I live in south Florida and have not been successful in locating one.  Anyone have any ideas.  It feels like needles are sticking in my legs and feet and sleep has become nearly an impossibility.  Please help.

I totally understand you suffering. Please, please try this. It's such an easy things and it totally cleared me up and I have been clear for over a year after years of serious pain and suffering. Go to Dollar Tree and buy Butt Aide, the stuff for babies diaper rashes, it has castor oil in it. I don't know if this is why it works but man it works and it works great. Please try and let me know how it worked for you. Takes about 2 to 3 weeks to get all the lesions cleared up

Hello
I also have psoriasis. I am 26 and have had it since I was 8. I understand the frustration of not being able to get it under controll. I will list some of the things I have done that have helped. I try to stay away from the prescription creams because I have had problems with them working, then having an adverse affect the next time I use them. also the steroid creams cause thinning of the skin.

I have found for the scalp (would work for other areas too) putting real mayonase on my scalp and wearing a plastic shower cap to bed would soften the scales enough to almost compleatly remove them in shower. Then apply medications after shower. could do the same thing with body and wrap with saran wrap.

Products with a higher consentration of Salic Acid (found in acne products) using the pads or washes

I had special laser treatments in my derm. office that REALLY helped alot. I have fair skin so tanning bed and sun makes mine worse :( but ther is a New laser called the "xtra" laser. it gives off the opposit rays than tanning bed uva or uvb (can't remeber which) and they treat only the areas that are broken out

I also have switched to Melaluca products for cleaning, laundry and personal care items. I have used these products since 2006 and are the first that dont further irritate me. They have a lotion called Renew that is the best I have EVER used!!! It really sticks with you and keeps you moisturized without being greasy!! They also have a body wash, and bath oil (renew) all of there products have Tea-tree oil which really helps the psoriasis because of anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties (just to name a few!!) There products appear to be more expensive but a little go's along way! (they dont load everything up with water so its way more concentrated)

Also have you looked at your diet? I have found that if I eliminate all dairy mine will flare up then completly heal up. Also when I eat alot of carbs (and sugar) mine gets worse! Kind of ironic but I have found alot of people who have P end up being dibetic when older.

and Lastly...I have been taking Humaira bi-weekly, and Methotrexate (injection) as needed for the last 3 years.

I wish you the best of luck and hope mabey some of these ideas can help. I also have tried everything under the sun in desperation of not wanting to be miserble!! OH and Meditation can help also. (using as a coping skill to help lowers stress :))

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
There are many treatment options for psoriasis, chief ones being cognitive behavior therapy, creams containing coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids like desoximetasone, fluocinonide, vitamin D3 analogues and retinoids and phototherapy and photochemotherapy. Psoriasis that is resistant to topical treatment and phototherapy is treated by medications that are taken internally by pill or injection. The three main traditional systemic treatments are methotrexate, cyclosporine and retinoids.

So you can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I have the same issue, one cause of your suffering might be over medicating, most of the stronger lotions that we would use contains steroids wich your body will build an amunity to from what I'm told, I rememer using a cream on my hands constantly and when I ran out it was horrible, you might try your same old regime but less often and might let try winging yourself off the more powerfull lotions over time, it helped rid the eczima that I have had on my hands and face
