Sudden oily hair

I have never in my life had oily hair ever! Now all of the sudden a few days ago after shampooing and styling as usual I noticed my hair looked as though I hadn't washed it. In fact it looked worse than before I washed it. Thinking I hadn't washed all the conditioner out of it I just waited and washed it again as usual in two days. Well, the same thing happened. It's still oily. I made sure I washed it thourghly and only used a small amount of conditioner on the ends. But it still came out looking oily. This is crazy. This has never happened before. I have recently started taking 25 mg of Topamax twice a day for right temporal seizure disorder. Could this be causing my sudden oily hair?

Hi!  Check out this thread about sudden oily/waxy hair, I tried some of the suggestions and completely got rid of my sudden onset of greasy waxy hair: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Dermatology/Sticky---Oily---Greasy-scalp/show/739022  I soaked my hair with tea tree oil, vinegar and then washed with Palmolive.  Hope it helps :)

Hello,
The chances of truffle oil causing these symptoms if very less and it was consumed 1 week back. The excretion of edible oils is mainly through urine and feces and less likely as sweat.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you kindly for your response. Although I am still experiencing this odd phenomenon with my sudden oily hair after washing it again today and it is oily immediately after washing (I normally wash it every other day or every third day) I am wondering if it was something I ate. Two weeks ago I prepared a new dish that called for 1/4 cup of truffle oil. Of course I didn't eat the entire dish consuming all the oil but it seemed like a lot of oil to me. I experienced the taste of truffle oil for a week after consuming it. A week after that is when I started experiencing oily hair. Could the truffle oil be causing this odd phenomenon with my hair? A few times I even thought I smelled it on my pillow. Am I imagining things now?

Hello,
There is no medical condition as such which causes oiliness of the hair.I would suggest you to clean your hair frequently with a mild shampoo(you can use the ones for oily hair) and don’t apply any conditioner on the hair. Also you can shampoo twice during each wash and apply shampoo on the scalp without piling the hair on top.
