blisters

I have been getting tiny blister on my lips for aprox. one month.  My lips will blister, dry up, and then peel.  Then the cycle starts all over again.  My lips are very tender after they peel.  I am not wearing any cosmetics on them at this time.  My doctor told be to put vanilla extract and rub vitamin B on them.  I stay away from chapstick.  I drink aprox. 60 oz. of water daily.  What can it be?

Wow! I have the same thing!! I have Lupus which is an immune disorder and my neice was telling me that I should be getting Vit. B12 shots!! Thank you for writing you probably have helped me more than you know! I have been feeling really sick.  When you have a chronic illness you tend to brush off things because you can't go to the doctor every time something happens!  I just figured my lips were really dry, but it was weird why they were blistered on the top and would cycle like that.  Thanks so much and I will keep you posted!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

How are you? Most mouth sores such as in your case are caused by: accidental trauma ( bites or burns from hot food or drinks); infection, hormonal changes, immune system related, stress or from low levels of vitamin B12 or folate. Less commonly, mouth sores can be a sign of an underlying illnes or reaction to a medication. Continue with rubbing vit B12 on your lips and if it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management and to rule out conditions mentioned.

Take care and regards.
