itchy bumps

Okay, So I live in the country and I don't know if this is why it's happening. But, I started getting really itchy one day and I got little red bumps on my penis, balls, inner thighs, butt, back and stomach. It's like a HORRIBLE mosquito bite gone crazy. I itched so much that i got a rash on my inner thighs and i itched at my balls and penis so much that the bumps got bigger. And being active all the time and sweating in my boxer area did not help at all. I went to the dr and told them that I thought it was because of new laundry detergent. He prescribed me with a medicine that helped for a bit but it came back within a few days. The itching is nowhere as bad as it was but I do still itch and the bumps are still all over my body. The bumps on my groin are still there just not as bad. Some of them have even scabbed over on my penis. I don't know what is wrong. And It feels like the dr doesnt even care to help. Also, now my girlfriend has started itching a bit on her legs, armpits and boobs. Nowhere else. What is going on??? Is this an STD, or what? I am afraid to get checked. But I feel like if it was an STD it would be a little bit more worse then this. If SOMEONE out there knows what is going on. Please let me know. So we can get rid of it and get back with our lives.

Thank You!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
It can be due to scabies. Scabies is an infestation of the skin with the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. It is characterized by intense itching, usually at night and by small insect-type bites lesions on the skin. Diagnosis of scabies is made by scraping the skin and viewing the material under a microscope to see the characteristic mite or eggs.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
