perianal itching and white patch(es)

I've experienced perianal itching and a noticeable white patch around the area.  I've used several products for jock itch, thinking it is caused by a fungal infection, but there has been no resolution to the problem.  If anything, the only thing that was accomplished by the application of these creams is the temporary relief of  some of the itching.  I also used a systemic (oral administration) antifungal, with no help, either.  At first I thought that it could possibly be STD related, but I was cleared for syphilis, ghoorrhea, and herpes.

A doctor gave a reply here some time ago to someone who had the same problem.  The doctor suggested seeing a dermatologist, as in his opinion, this was a superficial skin issue, such as vitiligo.  Is there anything a person can do besides seeing a doctor?  I don't mind seeing a doctor if I have to, but I'd like to try to resolve the problem myself if at all possible.  Thanks for any and all responses!

Thank you for the information.  I do consume much of the foods that may cause irritation, and have limited them for about a week, but saw no relief of my symptoms (perianal itching AND a white patch around the area).   I'm intrigued by the fact that it could be seborrhea, and will treat it as such for a while to see what kind of results I'll get.  I may just end up going to my doctor as suggested.  In any case, I'll re-post here with my porgress.  Thanks again, and keep me posted with any new info!

Hi,

There could be several causes for the symptoms you are having. You should reconsult with your doctor to rule out the following possible causes -

'Perfumes, chemicals, or dye on toilet paper can cause an allergic reaction.

Moisture from sweat or diarrhea may cause itching. If the anal skin stays wet, the skin begins to break down.

Some foods irritate the anus when they are expelled during a bowel movement. The most common culprits are caffeine, chocolate, beer, nuts, dairy products, and spicy food.

Infections such as pinworms, yeast, and genital warts can cause itching.

Hemorrhoids, which cause painful swelling of blood vessels in the anal area, can cause itching.

Cancer, in rare instances, may be a cause.'

Therte are certain factors which predispose to the risk of developing anal itching as a symptom.

'Factors that put people most at risk for anal itching are as follows:

Diabetes

Recent antibiotic use

Chronic dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and seborrhea

Profuse sweating.'

Do discuss these with your doctor and exclude any possible causes in your case.

Post us if you need any further information and let us know about how you are doing.

Regards.
