what's the best treatment for my neuro dermatitis and could it be numeral dermatitis?

I've had some emotional stress for about 8 months now and developed a dry skin and itchiness in many parts of my body which makes scabs after I scratch it. What can I use to calm the itch , other than do something about my stress which seems to have caused this condition, according to my doctor?

I was diagnosed with neurodermatitis on my arm and mine also feels like shingles.  It gets worse during a period of stress or exposure to sunlight.  The best thing I have found to help me deal with the stinging and itching is keeping my arm clean and using Suave Oatmeal lotion, believe it or not.  It does not completely take it away but eases my discomfort which keeps me from scratchng and gives it a chance to heal a good bit.  Steroids did not help me but made my sores start to get infected.  I have never tried Lyrica but I do take Neurontin (in the same family) for other nerve pain and perhaps it helps my neurodermatitis as well.

My  Nuero Dermatitis is under the skin, along nerve endings; hense the name. Kinda like shingles.Nothing topical helped. I used ice packs to numb the areas. Mostly upper arms, but abdomen after an abdomenal surgery. My MD put me on Lyrica. I took it routinely for about 2 years. It broke the itch/scratch cycle i had suffered from for about 20 years. I now take lyrica only on occasion and it has kept it under control.

Just use a good moisturizer. I use olive oil after shower. It works much better then chemical moisturizers. No you don't smell like a salad.
Stress can cause all kinds of skin problems. The dermatologist usually say it can't. But they can't cure a rash.
I know a lot of people that suffered major events in their life which caused dry skin and mild eczema. The problems all went away after the stress and immune system got back to normal.
Don't use steroids or anxiety medications. They will prolong the problem.
