Am I diabetic?

I'm 29 years old and have a family history of diabetes. I had an HbA1c test done sometime ago which was normal but I have been getting symptoms of low blood sugar which resolve within 5-10 minutes after eating glucose tablets and I don't know why. I am also hypothyroid. Could anyone please advise?

Symptoms when haven't eaten: feeling sick, tired, weak, shaky, headache, drowsy, irritable.

Thanks for reply. I am under the care of an endocrinologist but she is planning to discharge me because she is leaving all management of my hypothyroidism to my doctor. Can the endocrinologist do anything more to help me or is it highly likely they've made up their mind in discharging me?

I have got a blood sugar meter but I don't seem to produce enough blood to get onto the test strip

Hello,

You may be diabetic.  The way to know is to have more tests done.  A repeat Hba1c, and also to get hold of a blood sugar meter and to test when you are feeling symptoms.

As you are also hypothyroid you have a higher risk of type 1 diabetes.    In many cases people may experience hypoglycemia in advance of proceeding to overt diabetes. In adults onset may be slower than in children.

Please see a Dr. and get this checked into.
