Diabetic with indentation in leg.

Hello everyone, so recently, I've been experiencing some higher than normal blood sugar levels and have had some swelling in my leg. Today, I noticed an indentation in my leg that hasn't gone away for a few hours. Does anyone know what this could be? I've also experienced some chest pain recently as well, not totally sure that that's connected but worth mentioning. Please let me know anyone's thoughts as I can't really afford a doctor at the moment

Hi,

glad to hear that your chest paid has resolved and that your blood sugars seem to be stabilizing.

While the prudent advice is to see a doctor, only you can judge if you are back to normal.

It is very important to control blood sugars well to avoid complications, as I'm sure you know.

Elevated blood sugars can sometimes be due to infections.  Please do see a doctor if you have any concerns about your health or condition.

I'm traveling outside of my network at the moment, which is why I can't see a doctor--it's crazy how expensive it is just go see a doctor, I couldn't imagine how your average person does this without insurance. Since yesterday, my chest pain has subsided and the indention has gone away. I've had someone conduct several filament tests and I've done fine, so I'm really hoping to be able to rule neuropathy out...also, my blood sugars have been running high for about seven to ten days; they've since stabilized today. Would it be absurd to wait a week or two to get to a doctor? And wow, thank tou so much for the response, this really does seem like a wonderfully helpful community.

I do think you are going to have to bite the bullet and see a doctor.  Edema or this kind of swelling can mean a couple of things.  So, fluid is accumulating. High blood pressure can cause this, congestive heart failure can cause this, poor circulation, excess weight and standing, chronic lung disease.  And other things.  With diabetes, are you saying you have diabetes?  How is your kidney function?  Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is something a doctors visit is a MUST.  Put your feet UP (higher) and cut way down on salt --  but really, with all the reasons why you could have pitting peripheral edema AND your diabetes, you need a doctor to get involved. ESPECALLY if you say you have chest pain.  I actually think an ER or Urgent Care would be prudent.  Let us know how you are doing!
