new to JD

Monday we  found out our almost four year old has Juvenile Diabetes. She's not one to wear braclets or necklaces and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place where I could get temp. tatoos that say "diabetic" Or if anyone has any other idea on what to use.

Maybe if she found one she really liked, like with kitties or ladybugs or hearts, like those at www.cutemedicalbracelets.com she might be able to pick one out and actually want to wear it.   Also another good idea I've heard is to put a label on her car seat or booster with bright colored duct tape and write diabetic on it.  That way if you were in a car accident and couldn't speak, paramedics would know right away  Good luck.

I thought those with comments had some good suggestions.  When I was younger I did not want to wear the medical alert necklace my mother bought for me, so we pinned the actual medical alert pendant to my clothes( on the inside)  It is pretty important to wear your med-alert charm.  What about if you sew her information on her tags in her clothes?  Sounds time consuming but it would be there and you would have piece of mind.  Or what if you make a big deal about a pretty bracelet she could wear.  Do you wear jewelry?  Maybe you could both get one and she would like to be like mommy or daddy and wear a matching bracelet.  My kids like to do anything I am doing especially my daughter who is three.  Also-go to www.jdrf.org, the juvenile diabetes research foundation website and see what other families have done in your situation.

Perhaps you can place the "diabetic" charm with a safety pin (or something pretty) on her clothes...When I became diabetic, we did not have the bracelets or necklace.  We let all the teachers know what to do in case of an emergency.

I googled temporary tattoos.  This is one that came up (519) 898-9999 or e-mail to ***@****.   It seems you can design your own.  If she has short hair you might want to put it on the back of her neck, or ask a medical professional where they suggest.  I guess I worry as she gets older whether she will not want to be always staring at the tattoo or maybe she at some point will get into "jewelry".  If she goes to preschool, you could also put an id card in the nameplate part of her backpack.
