searching for RN or LVN for diabetic 4 year old in Los Angeles

Hi,

My 4 year old son is T1 diabetic. We are looking to hire an RN or LVN to accompany him to day camp. It would be a full time position lasing 6 weeks. We would also like to find someone part time (permanantly) to help with him in our home. We live in La Canada, CA (near Pasadena). The nursing agencies seem to all work with the elderly only. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks! Stephanie

Thanks for your response. I did check with the camp and they are fine with someone being there with him. Also, my 4 year old is okay with it too. I can see, however, that as he gets older, he will probably not like this at all. For now, he doesn't mind. I will check with the camp to find out if they have their own nurse. I did ask if they had T1 diabetic counslors, which they've had in times past and am waiting for a response.

As far as it getting easier -- I pray you are right. The checking him throughout the night is really tough. We have him on a pump (love it) and are now using the CGM as well (off and on). But he goes low and high every night, and we continue to adjust according to our dr's suggestions. We've gotten his A1c down to 6.7, but it's killing us!

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Stephanie
