80% of people with Type 2 diabetes have high blood pressure, I guess it could be a big factor.

Yes, it’s part of this group of indices we call metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome  is when:

Abdominal obesity M: waist circumference usually greater than 40 in and F: usually greater than 35 in

TAG (triglycerides) greater than or equal to 150mg/dL

HDL Chol M: less than 40 mg/dL and F: less than 50mg/dL

Blood Pressure of 140/90 or 130/85 and greater

Insulin resistance (your body no longer is sensitive to insulin) so its a fasting plasma glc (glucose) of 100mg/dL or greater

Met S is a precursor to DMT2 and CVD

High blood pressure, high blood sugar can both be part of the same metabolic syndrome.  Both should be carefully addressed and well managed.
Exercise, weight loss, low carb diet, as well as medications, if required, are the best way to manage.  Best wishes to you.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Thanks for the question.  In essence, yes.  High blood pressure increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by about 50 percent.  Controlling blood pressure and diabetes prevention are essential.  Here's an article about this topic. https://www.nhs.uk/news/diabetes/high-blood-pressure-does-it-lead-to-diabetes/

Speak to your doctor about these concerns.  All the best to you.
