Hi,
to be diagnosed with diabetes so early in your pregnancy actually means that the diabetes was prexisting. Maybe it was just managed with diet and exercise before.
I was in the same situation with my first pregnancy. Diagnosed pretty much as soon as I know i was pregnant. I managed it with diet and exercise up until about 3 months after which I was on insulin.
For this new pregnancy (I am now 2 months), I started on insulin about 2 months before I got pregnant.
It is very very important to control your blood sugar well. Target fasting and before meals is < 95. Target 2 hours after meals is < 120. You will need to monitor frequently and also be very careful with your diet.
You are very welcome to send me a message and ask any questions you have.
Best wishes.
Hye
Have you earlier been diagnosed for Diabetes or have your got your tests done earlier?
hPL (human placental lactogen) that increases during pregnancy can increase your blood sugar for this transient phase.
Try REDUCING refined sugars and carbohydrates in your diet.
Keep getting your blood sugar monitored every fortnight to stay under the safe limits so that the fetus is not affected.
Once your child is born, you will most probably get back to normal bs levels.
All the best,
Parth Adhyaru
You need to make an appointment with your doctor and talk about the plan to treat your GD. It is very important for your baby that your blood sugar be controlled. Some people can do this with just diet and exercise, some people need oral medication and some insulin for the duration of the pregnancy. Your doctor will advise you to get a glucose meter (or give you one free) and to test your blood sugar at specific times. He will tell you what your target blood sugars should be and what you need to do to achieve that.
Woww, you lucky to have found out this early in your pregnancy. I've had gestational diabettes, basically you need to take extra care of yourself and your eating habits. otherwise, not only will you feel real bad, your baby will suffer for it. Call your treating hospital and they will provide you with education on the subject. You can also google for more information.
