High Glucose Levels

I am 44, not overweight, never ate sweets and was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.  After taking medication for 4 weeks my A1C when up from 14.6 to 14.9.    My blood sugar level in the mornings are running 250 to 300. and 300-390 during the day.  My doctor changed my meds last week and we are waiting 3 more weeks b/f I have another A1C test.  How dangerous is it for me to go this long with my sugar level so hight?

Cut back on mashed potatoes and white rice, pasta. Also fruit juices are better avoided, the whole fruit is better. A referral to a diabetes specialist /endocrinologist is necessary to get the correct meds for you

I think when u have such high blood sugar u need to really look at the food u are eating. I was eating carb foods rice, potatoes, chips icecream and i earned myself a 7.0 A1c, My Dr. right away said lets put u on Byetta, they ordered it and it came in the mail. I got on the website for byetta and I froze up. I have never heard such problem with a drug. First my dr. lied he said it  WAS Gila Monster Spit, I soon found out it is synthetic a chemical based medicine like al the others. So I took charge an said to myself LOW CARB IS ALL THAT HAS EVER WORKED FOR ME. Get yourself on the Low Carb forum or get reading some books on it, one very good one Is ATKINS DIABETES REVOLUTION. I bought it read it and am hole hearted doing this woe. U should really take charge of your health before u are on all of the ora pills and insulin.

I was browsing through the forum and found your post.

Just because you don't eat sweets, doesn't mean you are not eating the right foods.  Sweets is just a part of it.  You  have to watch your total carb intake, and the kind of foods you eat.  A person could eat a meal including a large potatoe and peas and send their sugar through the roof.  Eating a lot of pasta or rice will do the same thing.

Because of my size, 5'6 and currently 169lbs down from 212lbs two years ago, I eat 45 good carbs per meal, three times a day, and 15 good carbs for a snack two to three times a day.

As a snack I eat a yogurt at 13carbs, or a Glucerna shake at 18carbs.  I try to eat any fruit with my meals instead as a snack, and it helps with how fast the sugar from the fruit enters my system.

Your sugar levels are definitely dangerously high.  I agree with checking with a specialist, and maybe a nutrishionist to help you get a better handle on the proper foods.

It is a clear sign of diabetes. You have to consult a specialist in internal medicine. Definitely, he would suggest suitable medications. Early treatnent is needed in your case. If you delay the treatment, you would encounter many complications on your vision, nervous system, etc.,
