Is Lantus good for Type 2 diabetes?

I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5  lbs cause I couldn't eat anything. So she said she may have me try Lantus if Victoza didn't work. I emailed her yesterday telling her I gave up Victoza and want to try the Lantus. Has anyone had success on Lantus? Do I have to give up the oral meds while on it?

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Thanks for your question.  It sounds like you have had a very difficult time of it.  How long have you been diagnosed?  It's important to get this under control as you know.  We are glad you are working with your doctor on this.  Here is information regarding Lantus https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-20815/lantus-u-100-insulin-subcutaneous/details.  With regards to taking your oral medications and Lantus together, please speak to your doctor.  For many patients, as long as you are checking your blood sugar levels, this is fine.  But your doctor should guide you in this.  Please let us know what you think and how you are doing.
