Phantosmia Related to Diabetes

Is phantosmia related in any way to diabetes?  Here are other factors involved in my health situation:

Female -45yrs
Type 2 Diabetic
Hypothyroidism
Hi BP/Cholest
history of depression

On medication for all above.  Lost my sense of smell/taste about 1 year ago, apparently due to several bad bouts of sinusitis.  Most recently am experiencing symptoms much like phantosmia; unpleasant odors much like cat box or spoiling meat.  No one else smells this.  Rather disconcerting and frustrating.  Is there a possibility I'm re-gaining my sense of smell?  Or is this a permanent situation?

MY MOTHER-IN-LAW SENT YOUR COMMENT TO ME. I AM 55. I HAD A HORRIBLE SINUS INFECTION ABOUT 3-4 YRS AGO. LOST MY SENSE OF TASTE AND SMELL AND ALSO LYE AWAKE NIGHTS AND WAKE UP OUT OF A SOUND SLEEP TO THE SMELL OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. I THOUGHT HONESTLY I WAS THE ONLY CRAZY ONE. I AM ALSO DIABETIC TYPE II, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND OSTEOPOROSISI.

Chefangie, I have been dealing with this phantosmia myself for about a year. this is my 3rd round with it in a yr. The odor for me is really strong cigarette smoke, burning inside my nose. It keeps me awake through the night because the smell is that strong and actually makes my nose sting inside as if someone was really blowing cigarette smoke inside my nose. It is very frustrating to deal with and it makes you feel like you must be going off ones rocker. I two have type 2 diabetes. Thank you, brebka5
