Symptoms

Can you tell me if you had most of the symptoms of diabetes when you were diagnosed? Or, did you not have noticeable symptoms, and found out through an exam? What made you suspect you had diabetes?

I have type 2 diabetes and have for 11 yrs,  I thought I had diabetes for a while before I was actually diagnosed and not knowing enough, did not press my doctors reasoning for not thinking my higher blood sugar readings were not significant enough.  He did not do a Hemoglobin A1c test.  Just a blood glucose which  was showing high blood sugar readings for some time, and he for whatever reason didnt think it signficant enough.  I was complaining of  tiredness, blurred vision,  my skin was actually breaking out and I was 40, I also was overweight.  I was urinating like crazy and then began to have yeast infection after yeast infections just Like I had when I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes.  I got a meter and started testing myself, I went back to the doctor and he finally did a hemoglobin A1c test and it came back a 8.7% which confirmed I was diabetic.  I really couldnt believe how stupid my doctor was about this as I was a prime canditate for diabetes. But that was then and the american diabetes association has changed the guidelines more since then. Go have yourself checked if you have these symptoms or  you have a family history of diabetes.  Obviously something is making you feel there is a possibilty of being diabetic.  You may also want to check into the possibility of qualifying for some program for people with economic difficutlties and no insurance..  I have a friend who lives in a rural area and they are not doing well financially and have no insurance and they found different programs to provide some medical assitance.  Im sure most if not all states have these assistance programs.  good luck

If I offended you, I apologize for it was not meant to be. If you had stated your concerns in your first post my reply would have been different. Opening a new thread with same type of questions will not solicit new responses. Keep in mind when posting on any forum, the quality of your post equals the quality of the response. Explain in detail what you need. Being vague, as you did, gets a limited response.

People may exhibit all the symptoms of a disease yet may ignore or not believe it is happening to them. They go on forums looking for an answer, yet all the while know testing is the only answer. Unless you are seeing a doctor who doesn't care about your well being, or you don't feel you get along with him/her, I can understand your concern. You might try to find a Nurse Practitioner if one is in your area. In any case you must get tested to determine whether you have diabetes, prediabetes, or are normal. In your case, since money is an issue, obtain a free home glucose test meter from https://www.onetouchgold.com/simplestart/ . They will ship 10 test strips and lancets with the kit. Test fasting (before eating) in morning (at least 8 hours after last meal, no late night snacking), directly before lunch and dinner, and 2-4 hours after meals. If your home testing has indication of diabetes, a visit to the doctor is in order.

I live far away from town. And I no longer drive. I have to be very careful with my money. If I don't check things out to be reasonably certain I'm not experiencing unknown symptoms of depression, I waste a lot of money on Dr. visits and cab fares. I'm very sorry to have bothered you. It won't happen again.

Being uncertain or unsure if you're normal, prediabetic, or diabetic, you must get tested for clarification. I thought I made this clear to you in your Oct 10, 2008 post - Hungry. In your case, it will only make matters worse if you don't. If you wish to continue to ask questions and sit in the dark, don't get tested.
