Hi Im thin and 57 and diagnosed with prediabetes last Aug

Through trial and error with trying various fad diets (a plantbased diet which made me weak and exhausted to Low carb high fat diet Im currently on)I have lowered the A1c from 5.7 in Aug 2020 to 5.1 in Feb 2021. My problem is knowing what to eat on a daily basis. Id love to eat more choices but stick with 3 diff proteins, low carb veg, no fruit, little to no dairy, no grains. I keep losing weight. I was always around 130 at 5.7 inches and now 108 lbs. I cant put on weight on this under 50g carbs a day. Any suggestions on best diet for a thin person like me that isnt overloaded with meat/fat? Im already eating some fats at each meal 2-3 x a day. Im always tired. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi there.  So, let me ask you this . . . since being diagnosed with prediabetes and losing some weight and changing up how you eat, did your numbers change regarding the pre diabetes diagnosis? I think it is definitely a good goal to get a diet you can maintain without losing weight.  You must be extremely thin now!   Definitely can understand why you'd like to gain a bit of weight.  I found an article that talks about how to gain weight when you have diabetes.  I'd assume the information could apply to you as well (although I don't know if you have successfully stopped the path toward type 2 diabetes or not).  In fact, I've read that unintentional weight loss can actually be a symptom of type 2 diabetes.  So, make sure you are checking on your numbers to know where you are at with that.  One thing the article talks about is eating more often. Instead of 3 big meals a day to switch it to 6 slightly smaller meals a day. It has a sample eating day with that for help in thinking about how to plan out your meals.  There are certain kinds of healthy fats like avocado, nuts and seeds (and their derivatives) that are good to add in.  There are probably more lean proteins to consider than the 3 you currently eat.  Perhaps you can get more ideas of that. What are the three, by the way?  Something else to keep in mind is to avoid low calorie food that fills you up or beverages that have empty calories but fill you up (like pop/soda).  They also talk about in weight/resistance training to your work outs (if your doctor approves).
