Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  That's an interesting question and we appreciate it.  It is amazing how far science has come, isn't it?  Here is an article that provides some insight on where this line of therapy is headed.  http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/61/1/229 That was from 2012.  However, information was released just yesterday regarding this important research. https://www.research.va.gov/currents/0319-Gene-transfer-improves-diabetes-linked-heart-ailment.cfm
That is probably the most current information.  It's in early stages of development still with studies conducted with mice specimen.  However, it does look very promising.

Hi,
we are not doctors here.  This is just a support forum.
I have not read about gene therapy being useful in diabetes related heart problems, though they do say gene therapy can be helpful for some conditions.
However, cost and likely experimental nature probably don't make it your best bet.

Your best bet would be very tight control of blood sugars, perhaps combined with cardiac rehabilitation under medical supervision.

Best wishes to you
