4 year old with low blood sugar every 6 months

When my son was 2 he woke up lethargic and unresponsive. We stuck a sucker in his mouth and took him to the hospital but when we got there he was coming out of it. We took him in for blood work a couple of hours later and he started hallucinating bugs everywhere. They did an MRI, a CT scan and a spinal tap and everything came back normal. The hallucinations went away within 2 or 3 days. No one had any suggestions about what it could be so we carried on with life. It happened two more times each about 6 months between each episode and with juice he came out of it. We didn't take him into the hospital those times since he came out of it and since they had done all the tests they could think of. We consulted with our physician and had a sleep study done to look for seizure activity, none were seen but he did have sleep apnia which has since been taken care of through a tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy. We consulted with a neurologist who thought it may be seizures but said not much could be done since it didn't happen often so he told us next time to record it and try not giving him sugar to see if his body comes our of it on its own. Yesterday (9 months since the 3rd episode) it happened again to my now 4 year old. I taped him and held him for about 30 minutes then decided he wasn't just coming out of it and needed help. I took him to the hospital where his blood count was 17! He was given sugar in his IV and is back to his normal self but is being tested at the hospital. The hospital checked his blood sugar every two hours last night but it stayed normal. Now I don't know what to think. It seems like it is hypoglycemia but it only occurs every 6 months? Anyone have an idea what may trigger these low dips? He was never really sick during the episodes and is a normal healthy boy usually. Any help would be amazing! Thanks.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Indeed the blood sugar levels are very low. If it happens it can be due to missed meals, too much time gap between the meals, too little food eaten, as compared to the amount of insulin taken, diarrhea and vomiting and celiac disease or an adrenal problem.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
