Diabetes

I'm diabetic. My cat walked over my foot, her toe nail dug into my big toe next to nail. Have celluitis now as result and on antibiotic. Urgent care doctor  told me if it doesn't get better in 5 days to call my doctor to be scene. Toe looks worse to me today, Monday 7-30 been on antibiotic since late Sat. evening. Is this enough time to expect improvement or should I just wait until 5 days passes to see what happens or do I call doctor today? Not sure because been diabetic for 42 years and never had anything like this. Thanks for your help. Helen

Note:  if you've been on the antibiotic for 48 hours you should see obvious improvement by now, if it is the correct one.  Please go back to your doctor.

Helen,

I would go back to the doctor already to be seen and not wait the five days. Wound management in persons with diabetes is critical to prevent complications.

The treatment if the wound should be very agressive to make sure this heals.

Please also work hard to control your blood sugar very well (ideally below 140 at all times), to help the healing process.

Let us know how you go.
