A1c 6.7 blood sugar 149. Start Metformin 500. 5 weeks. I'm in trouble.

A1C 6.7, blood sugar 149. I had already changed my diet and started an exercise program.  But the dr. Put me on Metformin. 5 weeks later. Kidneys hurt, neuropathy, never had that before.blood sugar fasting runs 170 to 220, being over 200 alot. I stopped taking it...Dr ticked...Kidneys don't hurt. Neuropathy seems to be lessening....oh gosh I hope. Why did this happen to me?

Maybe metformin doesn't agree with  you, though your reaction is highly unusual.  Did you change your diet?  What are you eating?   To control diabetes you have to cut carbohydrates and sugars. Normal sugars should be in the 70 - 120 range.

I did. I have lost 18 lbs since I saw my dr. And a total of 38 lbs as I had already started on my own to lose weight.  I think the increase dose of Synthroid upped my blood sugar. I need to talk to my endo too. She doesn't know about the weight loss yet. It's been just over 2 weeks since I quit taking my metformin. The stinging skin is almost gone. What a horrible thing. I'd that's what happens with fibermyalgia people, they have my sympathy.
