Metformin and type 2 diabetes

I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?

It’s possible that Metformin isn’t the right medication for you.  There quite a few other medications you can try.  I’ve read about Berberine, but wouldn’t use it unless the doctor okays it.   From what I’ve read, Berberine is supposed to work the same/similar way as Metformin, so if Metformin isn’t working, it’s likely Berberine wouldn’t work either.

You should talk to your doctor and ask for a different medication that might work better.

Maybe you need something else. Maybe a smaller dose of glipizide with the metformin. Your doctor has to prescribe that

I already take 500 mg Metaformin, 2 tablets twice daily plus  Gliclazide 30 mg, once a day. I don't always remember to take them and some days, I eat sweets. I 've learned to eat a vegetable broth soup with a dribbled egg, for 2-3 days to help bring my sugars down. Yes, it works. Talk to your Dr and see if there's options to permitted 'doseage' you're allowed. He may offer a new amount.

You shouldn't use the fact that you take these meds to think you can cheat. Don't eat sweets. DM2 isn't something you can mess with. You must change your lifestyle or it will get to you, one day, if you continue. Talk to a diabetic nutritionist. Helped me a lot.

My answer is you need to bring that up with your doctor.  Have you recently been diagnosed with DM2? Remember, this is a progrssive disease.
