My daughter was overweight as a teenager. She couldn't understand why all of her friendds were size 0's and she was a size12. She had a hard time buying jeans in the junior dept. and shirts were tough the style was to show your belly. What she couldn't see (but all her friends and family could) was that she was beautiful.
I tried to tell her that her friends wouldn't be 0's forever (she didn't believe me, but I was right). I tried to tell her to relax, be active and give her body time to mature (she didn't believe me).
My daughter is 20 now, she played tennis in HS (never the star but it was exercise and fun) and she matured into a slim, beautiful young woman.
The moral of the story is.....you don't have to be skinny to be smart, popular, active, pretty and happy. You can set goals for yourself and not beat yourself up when you aren't perfect. You can pick whatever activity you like (school sport? intramural sport? work out at the Y? start a dog walking service for old people?)
...I just remembered hearing some psychologist (on TV I think) tell someone who had negative thoughts to immediately turn it to the opposite thought. So the next time you think "I always give up on my diet and cheat" turn it into "I can deal with eating someting off my diet and not give up"
Good Luck :)
Weight is not everything. I wonder how "overweight" you really are. Some of the most attractive people I've known have been overweight, but no one cares because they project confidence in themselves and don't obsess over their weight. Confidence is one of the most attractive qualities a person can possess. It's possible you are the only one that thinks you are overweight. But I don't know you or your situation.
Teen years are difficult. I'll admit it. Hopefully, you can get to a point where you can accept who you are and love yourself. I struggle with this too. Most people do.
Weight is important as far as health concerns but, respectfully, it is not everything. Learning how you feel about you, regardless of what others think, is most important. I spent a lifetime thinking poorly of myself and it only leads to more weight and more problems.
As Barb said, we truly believe in smaller portions of healthy food and moderate exercise as the lifelong tools to lose and then maintain our weight. We'd be happy to have you join us and stand ready to assist you once we know a little more about what you are doing. Of course, it is always good to obtain the assistance of a trusted adult, a doctor or school counselor as well.
Please allow me to share with you a story and a quote that helped me change my thinking. I hope it helps you as much as it did me.
ONE evening, and old Cherokee told his grandson about the eternal battle that goes on inside people.
He said, “My boy, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.”
“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.”
“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, tolerance, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”
The boy thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”
Here is the quote ...
Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? Nelson Mandela
Very best wishes ...
Welcome.
I'm not familiar with the hCg, but if you eat healthy foods and exercise regularly (walking is always good), you should be able to maintain your weight. Being too thin is not good and you may pay for it later in life with numerous other medical problems. I'm not sure what you are "cheating" at? Are you talking about food?
Just try to be yourself and enjoy life right now. Maybe some counselling will help? Have you considered that? Do you have a parent or other trusted adult that you can talk to?
If you can let us know a bit more about yourself - what you eat, your exercise, how much weight you need to lose, etc maybe we can help a bit more.
