Hi~ New here

Hi everyone~ I just found this site and I'm hopeing to get help with my weight loss goal.  I'm 29 and about 150lb.  I have never had a problem with weight and this is the heaviest i have ever been.  I started doing an hour cardio and weight lifting 3-4x a week in January.  I also changed my diet.  I still eat what I want but I have traded thing for better choices.  I drink about 6-8 glasses of water a day.  My problem is that i have not lost anything.  Not 1 pound.  I lost a few inches but that is it.

I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks
K.

First, please let me extend a warm welcome to the WL&D community.  As you see, there are many wonderful and caring people here that provide a wealth of information.

Glad to hear the doctor says everything is okay and do hope you'll be a regular member here; there is strength in numbers and when you feel a little down, these are the people to share information and pull you up.

I've lost the weight of another whole person in the last 2-3 years and am an emotional and compulsive overeater.  I've had to change my thought processes and find positive ways to deal with my emotions rather than using food to self medicate myself.

If I may, I would highly recommend that you make some simple changes, like adding more protein, rather than electing an alternative weight loss method such as Hcg.  After trying and failing at so many weight loss "quick fixes" .. I finally realized to "diet" meant a beginning and an end and while the weight might go down for a while, it also returned .. plus a little.  Implementing a style of eating that could be maintained and adjusted for a lifetime was the key that led to success.

When you get stuck and are not losing weight .. and it's not for a medical condition .. then you will want to look at ways to boost your metabolism and know for sure what you are eating.  MedHelp will be rolling out a new food journal .. hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks .. that will help you monitor your food intake.  Additionally, eating 3 small meals and 3 snacks keeps your metabolism functioning throughout the day and also keeps you pretty satisfied .. that helps with any temptations you may face throughout the day.

Try eating lean meats (chicken, turkey or fish before beef), fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates (whole grain breads, cereals, pasta) and low-fat dairy.  Portion control is key .. so it helps to get out the measuring cups.

Then, change up your exercise.  Do something different and unexpected each day you exercise .. and try for 4-5 times a week.  For instance, walk one day, ride a bike another, swim the next, do pilates, play volleyball .. try new things for variety and to keep your body in "muscle confusion".  Since our bodies adapt well, it quickly realizes "routine" workouts and we no longer get the benefit from it we once did.  When using "muscle confusion" .. our body is constantly surprised and when faced with something new keeps functioning at a higher metabolic level.

Then .. consider staying involved here to share information, get some motivation and support and build friendships with those that have and/or are walking the same path.

The weight tracker, exercise tracker and food tracker are all helpful tools and the people here are the greatest.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME .. and very best wishes to you and all of those who have posted and shared.

Sometimes it isn't always about the weight lost but the inches lost. You are doing really well , just keep it off..I am 29 years old as well but have struggled with weight my whole life then come to find out I have had a thyroid problem all along..I wish you the best!

Hi everyone!  I am a newbie as well.I just found this website and it's amazing how much information and support there is here.  I love everyting about it!  I am not currently looking to lose weight, however I have for many years dealt with a sugar addiction and compulsive overeating.  It is quite a struggle if anyone else here has expereinced it.  It takes time and hard work but it's amazing what breakthroughs you can make though being aware and having support.  That was several years ago and I now have a practice as a health counselor specializing in Family nutrition, where I work to educate and support moms, families, children in so many different areas of health and wellness, weight. stress, spirituality and so on.  I am always looking to learn as much new information as I can and I love to hear peoples stories.  It would be great to connect with everyone and support each other!  I will do my best to share articles, recipes, resouces, books, tips or anything else I can to help and support.  Please please share back!
: )    Looking forward to connecting!!  Together we can learn, create, inspire...
Warmly,
Elaine

And here comes "the broken record" - have you checked with your doctor to make sure you don't have medical issues preventing you from losing weight, such as thyroid, insulin resistance, PCOS, etc?

I, myself currently weigh 145 pounds and never before weighed over 115 - 120 at the very most (even when pregnant), but most of the time I was around 105-112.  All of a sudden in 2007, I started putting on weight like there was no tomorrow.  I began watching what I ate (made my own food journal - daily calories < 1000-1100); began exercising every day, etc.  By the time it was all said and done, I had gained about 30-35 pounds.  I finally got my doctor to listen and he agreed to let me get my thyroid tested..............

Sure enough -- we found the culprit.  Hypothyroidism slows down your body processes and since thyroid has a lot to do with metabolism which can slow to a crawl, weight gain is often one of the first symptoms.

For me, it's been a long hard struggle to even drop a pound or two, no matter what I do.  I AM on thyroid med and have been able to pretty much "halt" the gain, but have yet to make a single pound budge off my "hinny".  I've decided that I'm kind of going to adopt twehner's "non-diet" concept and see how it goes.  Can't be any worse.........

Do be careful some of the "alternative" weight loss methods.  Some of them can be down right dangerous.  Furthermore, if you find something that will make you lose weight, generally, the weight will be gained back as soon as you go off whatever it is you take.  That's why it's best to make lifestyle changes that you can stick with for the rest of your life.

Good luck and hope you will stay with us....

Hi and welcome to the community.

Usually, it is recommended to lose 1-2 pounds per week if you want to maintain that weight loss.  Be very careful about losing much more than that.

I had a friend who was just like you - very discouraged because she wasn't losing ONE POUND, even though she was working out very hard several days/week.  She started FINALLY keeping a food journal.  Someone took a look at it and said that she was NOT eating too much, BUT she was eating just a FEW too many carbs.  For all the hard cardio she was doing AND strength training, she needed a bit more protein and a few less carbs.

Viola!  She tweaked her diet.  She did NOT have to eat less!  She just re-arranged what she was already eating.  So, if you haven't kept a food journal, that might be helpful.

I have lost 70 lbs without dieting.  It did NOT cost me anything.  It took 9 months.  YES, I have had a slight relapse, but I am 5 lbs over my goal weight and my weight loss journey began a little less than 3 years ago...
