Hey! I say go for it! It was part of one of my circuit classes. I believe we spent 3-5minutes on each exercise. But it may depend on the weight of the hula hoop. Ours was the workout kind which is a little heavier than the standard ones and it is made of a different material. Something worth looking into!

As with all "movement" hula hooping counts as exercise, so it will help tone muscles and will even help burn some fat. You'll probably really have to get with the program for it to help with losing much weight, hey, if you enjoy it, go for it.
Incorporate it with a healthy diet and you might be onto something.
