New to forum, just geting started again after having baby

Hi I am new to this forum and just getting ready to start dieting and exercising after having my baby! I have been walking some, but wanted to wait to really start exercising and dieting until my baby is a month old to let my body heal and make sure my milk supply is well established. she will be a month old on the 13th, so I am starting to look around for ideas and tips now. I am breastfeeding, so I am planning on mostly just cutting out junk food and focusing on a healthy diet and only cutting a few calories as well as moderate exercise I actually have already lost my baby weight (unintentionally) I only gained 15 pounds lost 11 from the birth and lost the other four pounds by the time she was 2 weeks without dieting or trying. however I was already quite a bit overweight before i got pregnant with this one (this is my 4th baby) and I want to continue to lose weight and get healthier! I look forward to getting to know all of you and go on this weight loss journey!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your baby.

It sounds like you are already well on your way to losing what you want. Cutting out the sugar and most processed foods will probably do the most good for you, along with walking and/or other types of exercises.

Cutting back 33% of your total daily calories may be too much while you are nursing.  You will need to make sure you are taking enough of the right kinds of calories to nourish both yourself and your baby.

If you cut back 250 calories/day and exercise off 250 calories/day, you should be able to lose a pound a week, which is in the ball park for the recommended amount. You can let us know your current weight/height and activity level and we can help you figure out how many calories you would need.

I also suggest that you use the food diary here on MH to keep track of what/how much you are eating. That will show you at a glance whether or not you need to cut back on some things (sweets, fats, etc) or increase other things (veggies, low fat dairy, etc).

Best of luck to you.

Hey!

Welcome to MedHelp and first of all, Congratulation for becoming a mother of the 4th wonder-pearl of your family!

I'd pleased to support you while you continue your journey towards fitness!

The first thing that sounds best in your case is that pregnancy weight-gain has already taken farewell. Now, the first thing you must start doing is body-weight exercises that can be performed at home - in a single room; or if you get a chance, start by walking 3-5 times a week for about 30-45 mins. Cut back on refined sugars, white rice, refined flours and increase greens in your daily diet. Cut down about 33% of your daily caloric intake which is very easy at the same time substantially effective for a healthy initial weight-loss!

Follow this for about a month or more and then we will talk again; but do let me know how much you lost on this!

All the best,
Parth Adhyaru
