Sunday Weigh In - March 23, 2014

Good morning everyone.  How are we all doing this morning?  I hope everyone had a good week.

My week went really well.  I had an appointment with my doctor on Mon, which was mostly centered around my weight issues and how it's contributing to other health issues.  Really made me stop and think about everything that's going on with my health.  While I knew how my weight is affecting my entire body, I wasn't really "paying attention".  When it gets put to you in certain terms, it sort of "grabs your attention".  Anyway, I'm making a renewed effort to get my weight under control.

Because of my renewed efforts, I get to claim a 2.4 pound loss this week.  Yes, that's right - I went from 156.4 last week to 154.0, this week... While I was further down at one point during the week, I did pick up some fluid.

My renewed efforts include making sure I keep my calories in check, but not too low.  I'm also making sure that I eat plenty of veggies - fresh, if possible, otherwise, frozen.  Last, but probably most important is that I've started keeping a large glass of ice water with lemon sitting on the counter and every time I walk by, I take a couple of sips.  By doing this every day, I'm keeping my body hydrated, so I'm not holding onto fluid as much.

My exercise has included a walk that consists of, at least, 2.5 miles most days and if I can't get out and walk, I've been doing the "Walk" videos.  If you've not ever seen them, they are excellent exercise.  They start out at warm up speed and continue on to a regular brisk walk.  It's all done "in place", so you don't need a large area and it doesn't matter if it's raining outside.  Some of the videos are done with small hand weights, some are done with resistance band, so you're really working the whole body.  In between the walking, I try to get in some yoga moves, as well, because yoga stretches and tightens the muscles.  Almost everything I do, geared toward burning more calories - even my housework contains stretches and moves that help strengthen muscles and burn calories.

These are things that I have to be aware of, most of the time, including my posture at the computer, which is to sit tall, tuck my tummy in and not slouch over the key board.  This holds my back straight and helps strengthen the core muscles.

So - that's my week and my progress.  How have you all done?  If you met the goal of losing one pound this week, congratulations; you did great.  If you exceeded the one pound loss, that's awesome.  If you hit a road block and got stuck for some reason, let us know how we can help get you back on the right track, whether you need motivation, tips, support, etc.... we're all here to help each other.

Hoping to hear from everyone who joined the Weight Loss Challenge.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week.

Remember, we all win by losing  -- weight, that is...  :-)

I'm about the same. The cashews & cookies in the house are causing food cravings. It's the old salt/ sugar routine.
I have lemon trees here in Costa Rica. Good idea Barb! Pamela

You're so tiny anyway, I'm still not sure you should even be trying to lose weight.  I remember when I weighed 85 pounds (5' tall), I looked like a scare crow and it wasn't the least attractive.  LOL

Muddy202 - if you can't avoid the temptation of treats in the cupboard, maybe you need to remove the treats, so you won't even be tempted.  I can't keep anything in my cupboards that isn't included in my diet.  My husband can eat anything he wants and he keeps "his" treats in a separate cupboard from the rest of the food and I don't get into his cupboard, at all. Much better to plan ahead and have your food prepared, so there won't be any question about what you're going to eat.

funtiny --- hang in there... I know what it's like to struggle and struggle and end up gaining.  Are you exercising, as well as watching your food intake?  If so, it's possible that you're building muscle, which could cause you to gain initially before you start losing.  Muscle burns fat, so you want to exercise to build muscle.  Try taking your measurements to see if you decreased in size if not in weight.

That said, have you had your thyroid checked to make sure you don't have hypothyroidism?

Don't feel bad about your up and down week.

I agree that it's best to enter your foods when you eat them, because it's easy to forget something, or just not log them.  I, too, find that I'm less likely to go over my budget if I make sure I log my food.

I can't really take days "off" either, because it's so hard to get back in the stride again.

You're lucky if this is only your hundredth time... I think I've gained and lost the same 5 pounds every week for the past 6 yrs... We just can't ever give up.  You're not doing it alone and if there's some way we can help you, please don't afraid to post and ask.  We won't know what help you need, if you don't tell us.

Yes, next week is going to be good for all of us... Best of luck.

Hi all! I expected to lose at least 1lb this week but didn't really expect to reach 45 kg by the end of the week as I went over my calorie limit for just a little for a day (that is Wednesday). I got to eat more because I need to pump milk for our ped visit. I also ate more than usual from then on to the end of the week although I didn't really reach my limit. My exercise time is a little lessened because it is raining all week and I can't do my usual morning and afternoon walks with baby everyday. I did increase my water intake for a couple of days though so maybe it helped in water loss?

Anyways, I lose 1kg by Sunday.

Good luck again to all of us for the next week.

Great job... It's okay to have a splurge day, once in a while, if you can get right back on track again.  Many of us can't.  Keep up the good work.

Good job everyone! I had an up and down week. I gain 1lb. I weigh 273. I had a busy week. I couldn't get all my workouts in.

Some days I didn't enter my food until the end of the day. BIG MISTAKE. For one, I noticed when I enter my food  when I eat it I'm less likely to go over my calories. Secondly, you are likely to forget something you ate by the end of the day.

I'm the type of person that I can't take a day off. I can have a lighter day but I have to stay focus. This only my hundred time. I'm glad I'm not doing it alone.

I feel good about next week . Good luck everyone.

Barb that was a great week!  Way to go!!!

My week was good.  Weighed last week at 190 and today weighed in at 187.5!  Yea!!!    Had lots of tests this week.  My pit tumor is shrinking.  Thank god!  I was able to get outside and walk this week.  My splurge day was yesterday.  We took my grandmother out for lunch to celebrate her 81st birthday.  Today it's back on the old wagon.  I can report that my hubby who I started on this journey with me without his knowledge ( his a diabetic and he wasn't watching his diet that great) has lost 17 lbs too!

I hope everyone else had a good week too!!!!
