Sunday Weigh In January 17, 2021

Good morning.  Ah, we have another cold (for us) day going so far - only 33° this morning... brrr!!  But the sun is shining and it looks nice outside (or it will as soon as the frost is gone).  We're off to run some errands this morning, so hoping it warms up some.  :-)

It's been pretty quiet this week.  We've spent quite a bit of time looking for COVID vaccines only to find that there are none left to get and registration for appointments has been suspended for the time being.   So much for that.

I've been working on my calligraphy and did some work in my shop during the week.  Also spent one day in bed - didn't really feel "ill", but was SO tired I couldn't stay awake.  Not sure what was going on there except that it might have been caused by the new blood pressure medication my pcp prescribed.  It's a beta blocker and IMO, it dropped my heart rate too low.  I've switched to taking it at night which seems to be working some better.

I have my ortho appointment on Tuesday and "think" I'll probably get out of my boot.  I hope this is the last time I'm going to need it as I ended up having to make a new liner for it.  If I have to continue wearing it, I'll need to make another one so I'll be able to swap them out for washing.

Even with the boot, I've been trying to walk regularly.  We've kept it to every other day and probably will for a while - or maybe go to every day and keep the distance down.  We'll have to see how it works when I get out of the boot.

My weight has stayed about the same over the week, though it's back to fluctuating so I'm thinking that once I get where I can exercise more, I should be able to start losing.  Keeping my fingers crossed on that.  My husband wants to go on a cruise as soon as we get the COVID shots and cruises are safe again, but I'm not going until I manage to lose some weight.

So - that's my story.  How was your week?  I hope you were able to reach whatever goal(s) you set for yourself.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

33 degrees in Florida? Wow -- we haven't had it that cold in Oregon yet except maybe once or twice deep in the night. And a cruise in the offing? Tough life to have! lol

I'm down .4 of a pound from last week, which is great, because we made and ate tacos two nights ago like we were starving, and if I'd had to weigh in the following morning I'd have been up a lot. This last week we also bought some candy and a tray of pastries (sane ones like bran muffins, but also unwise ones like poppyseed cakes and doughnuts) for my son, who has been working hard at his online school studies, and I sneaked a few tastes. All in all, losing weight this week (even that tiny amount) is lots better than it might have been!

I think that unless the new administration gets its act together in a hurry over Covid shots, it will be a while before we get ours. Both my husband and I are "1B" priority, but even the 1A workers here are not getting theirs very fast. Even some medical workers are still not getting them. Our governor announced a schedule based on the federal government promising to release more vaccines, and then came the news that the federal government had already released all of those, which made our governor really furious. Usually she isn't so blunt, but she said to the press that feds promising it and then pulling it back made it look like she had been lying. Anyway, with the new virus variation out there that is super contagious, these days we just aren't going anywhere besides the grocery store and the post office.

I've been watching the news with my hand over my eye and peeking between two fingers, hoping there isn't more violence. I'll be glad to see the country get through the inauguration without bombs thrown, frankly. We'll know next week how it went, and I kind of wish next week was already.

Good luck on the weight front this week!

Oh, last night wasn't our coldest so far this winter.  A couple of weeks ago, we got up one morning to 28/29.  We knew it was going to get cold that night, so we actually left outside water spigots running so they wouldn't freeze and break.

Husband is the cruiser...lol  We did a cruise a year ago (???  November 2019 - seems like forever ago) and husband loved it so much he did another one a couple weeks later on his own because I had prior commitments.  He's been chomping at the bit all year waiting for this virus to be gone so we can go again, but I'll be very cautious... I'm claustrophobic and just the thought of being stranded on a ship, confined to my room is enough to send me into a panic.  There's a good chance that I'll let him do one on his own again just to make sure it goes okay, before I agree to go along.  But of course, we have this weight issue and I'm not budging until I've lost some (a lot).

Anyway - congratulations on your 0.4 lb down.  That seems like quite an accomplishment considering that you ate pastries, etc.   Also, congratulations to your son for working so hard on his online classes - I've heard that's not as easy as it sounds, so I'm sure he deserved a tray of goodies.

I totally agree with you about the COVID vaccines.  I saw on the news that Gov. Brown was "really" upset when she found out there were no dosages left in reserve.  :-)   Our governor didn't go with recommendations - instead he opened the vaccines up to the 65 and older crowd, here in FL.  That's the group we're in, but so far we've not been able to get anything in spite of signing up in a couple of places.  The problem is that anyone can go anywhere to get the vaccine instead of having people stay in their own county.   Also, because we have so many snowbirds, there are tons of people from all over the country here trying to get vaccinated so as soon as they open up a site for registration, all the slots are taken and the site closes again.  My county got 50K registrations within a couple of days and they've now shut down the site until they get through those 50K registrants.   We did get registered on that site, but have no idea how long it might be before we'll get a call for an actual appointment.   Now that there's nothing left in reserve, it could be weeks before we're able to get vaccinated.

I, too, am hoping for no more violence... I'm even afraid to read news lately.  I'll be glad when the new President is installed and hopefully, things will settle down to a dull roar.

Thanks for the well wishes on the weight.  We did go out for errands this morning and before we left, we went online and ordered take out online to pick up and bring home for lunch.  We chose one of our favorite steak houses and it was yummy!!  We did save some of it for the evening, though so it shouldn't totally blow the day's calories.  :-)
