Hello all, I am new to the weight loss forum. I have been on a few of the pregnancy forums, but never ventured away from there. I had my baby 21months ago and had a lot of weight to lose. I finanlly got serious about my weight loss in January 2010, but also had some other issues going on. Long story short, I have lost a lot of weight (approx. 45lbs) the wrong way. I am 5'4" and started out at 238lbs. I am now 193lbs and still have a long way too go. I know that what I have done was not safe, and want to be healthy, I just don't know where or how to start. I have been trying to make better food choices, but have not seen any results. I don't want to get discouraged, but it's hard not to. I am ready to take charge and get fit and would like any advice to help me get started. The weight that I have already lost is nice, but if I don't change anything, i know it won't be long before it and a few more lbs come back. Please help me!!

I am excited about this community. I am very serious about losing weight & working towards a permanent healthier lifestyle. I am lucky in that my husband is joining me as my weight loss & fitness partner. I am 27 years old & 242 pounds. I hate my body & have hated my body since I was in high school (not overweight then). I'm very stocky & not willowy like the models & celebs. Sometime over this last month I realized that I will never look like that & I started wondering about how I could look. I may be stocky but I have great hourglass potential & I am well endowed (my chest size hasn't changed with weight gain). So why not work with what I got? I spoke to my husband about it & the next thing I know we are working hard to eat better & challange ourselves.
BTW - I am going to miss my cafe mochas... *sniffle*
Well, here I am - trying to lose weight (again / still / forever)
I have been "dieting" for about 5 years seriously now, but on and off since I was 20'ish. If you add all the weight I have lost in my life, it would be about 300 pounds - but it is offset by all the weight I have gained in my life (over 400 pounds)
About 5 years ago, after many years of not giving a rat's *** about my weight, I got on a scale and weighed almost 300 pounds (297) and told myself enough was enough.
I have been battling health issues for the past few years, so excersize is not easily do-able. But, I do try.
It has taken a long time - I was stuck at 260 for the longest time, but for the past two weeks now I have been just under 240 and I am tickled pink.
My goal is to ultimately reach 200 again someday. My doc says I should aim way lower, but I don't want to discourage myself by trying to bite off more than I can chew.
I will be happy at 200, and this isn't about fitting in to someone else's plans but to be happy and comfortable with myself.

I'm here. I've recently moved to a new country about a year ago and love the food. Also, I hate eating at home. so I eat out ALL the time. Needless to say, I have gained a lot of weight. I am going home in 6 months and don't want to see the looks of shock on everyone's faces, so i am determined to lose the weight before I go home. i'll look into those trackers. etc. Think I just need a boost and people to talk to about it.
Yes, isn't the Weight Tracker an AWESOME tool???? The Exercise Tracker does the same thing in helping us to get into an exercise routine! So very glad you found us on your google search! Just wanted to say how helpful the weight tracker has been. I found it through my igoogle back in march when I decided I HAD to lose weight and get back in shape. I really think it has been as integral to my first month of weight loss as the diet and exercise have been. Every morning I wake up thinking about what I'm going to weigh because I have to put it on my weight tracker and it's going to be staring me in the face every time I get on my computer. It's great motivation to skip the snack and make the extra trip to the gym during the week.

Jump right in .. we can give you lots of ideas about portion control and choosing the right foods. Just start some posts and ask your questions and the members here will get right back at you with amazing information!
I've been an emotional eater throughout my life and it takes examing our reasons behind our eating and some close looks at our behavior. Would be honored to help you with that. It does get better and the key is forgiving yourself quickly in those times the emotions win .. not quitting because it is a learning process .. and shouting out for help! Slowly we learn how to better handle our emotions and the emotional eating episodes get further and further apart.
Now, as for the wine .. there is no need to give up everything you like. This is about modifying our food intake. Try drinking only a few ounces of wine and mixing it with diet 7-up or Sprite .. like a wine spritzer. It is a compromise, falls within calorie content and you will not feel deprived.
Love that you are setting up your weight tracker. May I suggest the exercise and mood trackers as well. The mood tracker is especially important when it comes to emotional eating.
