Weight Loss

I'm a16 year old male, i'm 5'4 and I weigh 206lbs.  I was born 3 months premature and was put on breathing steroids when i was younger, which my dad said made me gain weight like crazy .  My doctors say that since I was premature that my metabolism hasn't kicked in yet.  I think they're insane.  I need to know a way to start losing weight because, in my eyes, I look absolutely disgusting, and it's affecting my health.  So, if anyone has a way to lose weight and keep it off please let me know.

Welcome to MedHelp and the Weight Loss & Dieting Community!!!  Your timing is really great in that we are starting a 3-weeks weight loss challenge where we answer questions and provide support among the members of the WL&D community and provide motivation and success stories to keep us moving forward.  It's not a "diet" ... it's making better choices to eat healthier, exercise and tune-in for a slow and steady way to reach our weight loss goals.  Would be thrilled if you would join us.

To answer your question, you may want to start by exchanging processed higher calorie foods with natural food choices.  An example would be rather than eating an apple pie, eat an apple ... rather than eating chicken fried rice, eat grilled chicken and some wild rice ... rather than eating fried vegetables or french fries, eat grilled vegetables or a baked potato (watch the toppings).  Does that help you get started?  Feel free to ask any questions.

Learning to like yourself can be difficult; it is something I struggled with for a long time.  Let me share with you a poem ... while written from a female perspective ... it was originally written from that of a male.  It's helped me as I learned to love myself and accept myself ... and make changes.

Hi! losing weight doesnt have to be so hard. Many of us in this community face similar challenges everyday.
I am not a big fan of "diets" so i would not recommend one for you. Exercsing and eating healthy is the way to go.
Unless you learn to ove yourself, this weight loss journey is going to be hard one. It's not your fault or any one fault that you have to lose weight. If you feel you have to lose weight, I am sure it can be done!

Here are so many of us waiting to help you, all you ned to do is particpate in the community, look for new ideas and keep this fun and simple.
