My sister has one, and she loves it.  She got Zumba to do on it I guess.  She has lost about 30lbs so far.

i have a wii and love using the wii fit, but yes once you get used to it, it can become not much of a challenge. i want to get the wii fit plus tht has kickboxing and martial arts and stuff.

i LOVE just dance 2 for the wii, i haven't played the first but i'm sure i'd love it just as much. the first time i did it i was sweating after about 4 songs like i would from running. and its just so much fun you dont want to stop even when your tired. and the next day i was a bit sore from all the booty shaking i did while dancing lol. i even downloaded additional songs from the wii channel to go with the game.

There's a Wii game (I guess they call it a game, right?) called "My Fitness Coach".  The "coach" named Maya is a bit fakey, but I guess that's not important, and I've had mine for a couple of years, so maybe they've improved her by now.

Maya leads you through workouts that you design to fit your mood, environment and choice of music.

I think there is also a new yoga dvd out for the Wii.  Yoga is my favorite exercise, so that's what I look at most.

You might do a google search for Wii games, or check out amazon.com.  I'm sure you can find all different types.  And don't forget the sports games, like bowling, boxing, etc; they all provide tons of exercise.  Get your partner to play them with you.

Yoga is mostly about flexibility, balance, breathing, etc. but remember -- these are all CORE issues and without a strong body core, you don't have much to go on.

There are several different types of yoga and I'm sorry to say that I'm not up on them all, nor do I know their individual names; however, I know some of them have you do the poses slowly and deliberately, concentrating on form - doing it right, more so than speed.  Contrary to popular belief, this WILL burn calories, but most of all, this lengthens and strengthens the muscles and helps you maintain balance.

I, personally, prefer the yoga that is slower and deliberate, moving from one pose to another fluidly.  AND the nice thing is that you don't have to be able to do it exactly like the people in the video -- THAT was a big stumbling block for me at first, when I played the video.  My first thought was "I'll NEVER be able to do that" and of course, my husband watching in the background confirmed "YOU better not try that, you'll put something out of joint"!!!  Gee, thanks dear, I love you too.................Anyway, I proceeded to shoo him out and give it a shot anyway.  No, I could NOT do the moves the way THEY did --- but after keeping at it for a few days, I noticed that my muscles were getting stronger and more limber, so I could come closer to performing the pose correctly and hold it longer.  The Biggest Loser - Yoga for Weight Loss" will have your muscles smoking by the time the 30 minutes is up and there are like 4 different levels, so you do level one for week 1 and 2, then move on to level two, etc.

Wii Fit also has different levels so you can challenge yourself more as you go along.  It's always good to have a variety of exercises to work on -- you might try doing something like: Monday - horse back riding (norco, I know you do this); Tues - walking for an hour; Wed -- Wii Fit for an hour; Thurs - Biggest Loser Yoga for 30 min. Fri - to the gym if you have a membership or whatever else you choose to do.

Or this week do the horseback riding, next week Wii Fit, the following walking, and so on.................

Doing different things, not only keeps things changed around to challenge your body, it also makes your workout more interesting than doing the same thing day in and day out.

Great review.. I think I might ask Santa for a Wii TOO!
Plus the info on the yoga... that's interesting because I never thought yoga could offer anything else but flexability... Thanks!

Oh -- forgot to mention that the Wii Fit balance games and other stuff are also a lot of fun and will help strengthen your core muscles and your balance.  These games are also good for the kids, if you have any.  In addition to that, my Wii came with a sports package that has tennis, bowling, boxing and some other things, so there's no shortage of things to do..............

My vote goes to ----- being worth it............for both yourself and your family.

Yes, I have one and I love it.  The only thing I don't like about it, is that once you get used to the routine, it's pretty slow paced.  I do like being able to track my weight and "Wii Fit" age --- because it always shows that I'm "younger" and in better shape than my 60 yrs would imply.  It's good for starting out, but once you get used to the exercises, it's not much of a challenge.

In addition to the Wii Fit -- I also have the "Biggest Loser - Yoga for Weight Loss"....THAT works very well, also and I got the DVD at a "major retailer" for only $10, plus it's easier if you have a yoga or other type of exercise mat.

I'm also looking into the Biggest Loser dvd that works with the Wii balance board.

It's a great idea to have a variety of things that you enjoy, so you can keep rotating your exercise, rather than doing the same thing every day.  Rotating, keeps your muscles "on guard" and they don't have a chance to get used to the same thing.

I often rotate the Wii Fit, with the Biggest Loser - Yoga for Weight Loss, with another yoga dvd I have........Can you tell that I'm a yoga fan??  And for anyone who thinks yoga is too slow or won't help you lose weight --- I challenge you to try the Biggest Loser - Yoga for Weight Loss.............
