Blood in Stool

Over the past several days I have noticed blood in my stool that is bright red in color.  The stool is flat as it has been for many years (but no blood).  It seems to burn or feel like the stool is passing over sandpaper when it exits.  I also have several bowel movements in a day when this occurs.  I had a colonoscopy several months ago with one polop removed but all test came back negative.  Help!

Hi Heidi,

Blood and mucous in stool is a symptom of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.  Please get checked by a gastroenterologist!

Take care,

Hi Greg, sounds like you need more soluble fiber in your diet. With more fiber you need to drink more water. Try a bran cereal it works for me.

I am not a specialist of any type, but what it sounds like to me is a problem in your rectal area.
I have been told that , when blood in the stool is a digestive (Ulcer) or liver problem, the stool will be black in color and have a tar like consistancy.
If I were you, I would watch my fiber intake.
It is not good to have to little or to much.
If you have GERD (Reflux Disease), I would ask my Dr. for Prevacid or Prilosec.
