ATL level

Recently during routine blood work, my ALT came back at 61 range for that lab is 0-43.  I had bronchitis and some sort of virus and was taking Zithromax, tylenol and was on two different asthma inhalers (proventil and Flovent) at that time.  What does this indicate?  Liver damage from the drugs?  I have since completed all the antibiotics and am better.  Will these level go back down?  All other levels were within normal ranges. I am scheduled for a retest next week.

Thanks

Your ALT level was not seriously elevated.  The Zithromax and Tylenol can cetainly elevate it and it sounds like that's what has happened.  This indicates a little inflammation of the liver, not damage, and most likey will reverse itself.  Alcohol will also elevate liver enzymes.

Many drugs can cause ALT to rise (Tylenol definately can).

An elevated ALT shows that something is "bothering" your liver......but does not necesarily mean that permanent "damage" has been done.

Keep an eye on your blood tests and hopefully when you are through taking these medications your ALT will return to normal.
