8 Year old dog - multiple symptoms -- behavioral and physical

Our 8 year old black lab/german short-hair pointer has been getting progressively worse over the past weeks to months with defecation in the house, generally very loose or mixed stools.  She has recently been showing excessive amounts of thirst, which is also causing her to urinate in the house.  For many years she has had thunderstorm and fireworks anxiety.  We have also noticed that after she defecates in the house, she rubs her nose around the carpet leaving red blood smears from her nose and her nose chaffed and bloody; and she always does what she can to cover the stool with anything nearby. She will notify us if she has to go outside, but if we don't get her immediately, she has a mess where she is. Prior to this she has been very healthy and had no problems holding her urine or feces.  What can this be?

Could  be any number if things for this. Mess, due to her age, I would want to rule out anything physical or systemic.  I would suggest getting her to the Vet for an exam and have blood work done.  I would also recommend taking in a fresh stool sample. That nose issue should definitely be checked as she "may" be dealing with an autoimmune problem.
ESP in the older dogs, it is a good rule of thumb to take them in fir yearly exams.  Blood work can often detect many issues going on like kidney and liver problems.

Haha - awesome! I always have typos on my droid! It's the swype feature.  Thanks for your feedback.  She is going to the vet tomorrow.  I didn't realize she was already considered "old" or "aging."  Poor little thing. :-(
