1yr old retriever is very weak

I have a 9mos old golden retriever and my husband allowed him to stud a labrador...when we went to take him home after 3 days of being away from us...we noticed,he's not that jolly anymore and he has no appetite for food...our place here in the countryside has no vet so we have to travel for a long time in order to take him to a vet...can someone help me know what to do for the mean time...he's very thin already...thank you so much...

I agree with Tony.  Get him to a vet ASAP.  If you can travel to mate him, you can travel to a vet.

I saw this when it was first posted but could not even trust myself to respond.  Yes, that was completely irresponsible!  What was your husband!s point in doing this?  Making money selling puppies, some deal with the owner of the female??
As Tony said, the dog was out of your care for 3 days so who knows what may have happened or what he may have picked up.  Did they actually breed or does anyone know?  Dogs can carry STDs just like humans.  Reputable breeders check their dogs for these before breeding or do artificial insemination.  He could have parasites, a virus, etc, just no way to tell or advise you.  I suggest you make that trip to a Vet.
What were they feeding? Did you send his own food with him?
You know how to take a rectal temp on a dog?  You need a rectal thermometer.
Try cooking up some lean hamburger or chicken (no skin) and rice and try a few small meals a day.
Again, sounds like he needs a Vet check.

Oh dear you have made a grave error of judgement, your dog will be affected by this for a long time. There are some dogs who just don't cope with such things. My friend's Dobermann attacked the other Dobermann it was supposed to be mating with and nearly killed it as it was in a panic and wanted to escape. I think your dog has been forced into a situation that has traumatised him.

Hello. You REALLY need to get your dog to a vet. You have put him up for stud far too early. Dogs are not normally put to stud until they have reached at least 2 yrs of age. Secondly, if you left him with someone for 3 days (???), how do you know how he was treated (and if he was maltreated), what he was fed or what how he was cared for? I'm sorry to say it, but I feel this was a very irresponsible thing to do and I hope you will think long and hard before doing such a thing again.

Your husband probably needs educating about canine welfare, otherwise he wouldn't have allowed this to happen.

Why is he thin already? This couldn't have happened in the 3 days he was away. What do you ordinarily feed him, how much and how often? What is his weight now?
