Christmas lunch

How hard is Christmas. I've had my dogs on a diet for a while now and they have been trimming down nicely. Then for Christmas, everyone gave them food treats for presents. They enjoyed them immensely BUT their tummies are almost dragging on the floor. Not only did they get treats but everyone was feeding them tidbits during lunch as well. They even had a couple of laps of champagne (I wasn't impressed with my uncle for that one) they seemed to enjoy the champagne a little bit too much for my liking.

At least it's only once a year.

Merry Christmas everyone and (for non christians) hope you had a lovely family day.

Oh boy! That sounds like some doggy party!
My dog had Guinness once (terribly bad idea I thought....and wouldn't let her have it again) But she showed no ill-effects, grinned a lot, played kill the squeaker, and then slept it off!

You know Ghilly, I'm not so sure alcohol is bad for animals. I don't want my girls to have alcohol just in case it harms them but I knew someone who gave his cat a bowl of milk with sherry in it every night.  I used to live on a little island just off the coast of Queensland and there was a lot of native parkland left untouched and we had lots of native animals and birds.  Everyone who lived on the island was very aware of responsible pet ownership and kept their dogs and cats inside at night and kept dogs on leashes at all times when they were being walked.

Well, my neighbour across the road had a cat that hated being kept in at night and would run around the house and cause mayhem. So, Greg started giving him the sherry at night to sedate the cat.  He had been doing that for about 14 years when I left the island. That cat was 17 years old and still looked fit and healthy.

I wonder whatever happened to Greg and his cat. Maybe I'll look them up when I'm on holidays next time.

It sounds like your poochies had quite a day!  :D

I would have been the same way had someone offered Katie "a bit of the bubbly".  Alcohol is not good for dogs or cats (or ANY pet) in ANY amount, but the day is done and other than overindulging them, nobody is any the worse for wear.

The holidays is a time of overindulgence for all of us, our pets included.  Yours are lucky that they have a heads-up Mom who is aware that too much is not good.  Too many pets are not so lucky, and their owners overindulge them on a constant basis.

One day will not hurt, other than perhaps causing some loose stools the next day, which should return to normal within short order.  I wouldn't want to be your uncle, though, because I have a feeling the next time there's a gathering at your home, he will be told in no uncertain terms that the dogs don't get to participate in any toasts to the day!  :D
