Dig seizure

Our Nina is 10 1/2 and is a black lab approximately 65 lbs...she had one light seizure about a year ago with drogginess after words and being unsteady but recovered rather quickly! Almost 48 hrs ago she had a pretty bad seizure that lasted around 5 mins with shakiness and heavy panting, drooling, weakness, throwing up and deficated also. However this time was different! She couldn’t move around at all. We had to pick her up and move her to make her comfortable and her head continued to wobble. We monitored her all night as she continued to shake and breath heavy. The worst part..she can’t stand up. She wants to but she is unable to get up still. We are very concerned as you can imagine for although she isn’t the most active due to her age she can only lay looking so disappointed and frustrated that she cannot get up and take care of herself! She is also very disoriented about eating and drinking missing her food and water when she tried. The vet hasn’t really given us any answers about why she is not able to use her legs now! She does have some ablitlty to move her back legs now but still not getting up. Any answers anyone? Suggestions? Anything! We want our precious pup waiting at the door wagging her tail when we get home again!

It's good that you took Nina quickly to see the vet. But it's odd that he hasn't been able to offer any solution, or even explain anything to you...? Basically it appears he just left you with an "I don't know" answer.

I haven't had personal experience with a dog who had seizures, but have heard that a seizure can cause some abnormalities in behaviour and function for a little while afterwards. Also they are very exhausting, so Nina might just feel a bit wiped out as well

It's "cluster seizures" you want to avoid, if possible, as too many back-to-back have been known to cause some brain damage sometimes.

I would suggest that you either speak again to your vet about what is the way forward.....or if you don't get satisfactory answers, then take Nina as soon as you can, to another vet for a second opinion.
There obviously was a cause of her seizure and it would be good if that can be found, and any medication she needs to be given to hopefully prevent any more.

She started some steroids yesterday and had IV fluids and seems somewhat better today but still can’t get up as she tries so hard! A second opinion is a good suggestion. Thanks for your comment!

I hope she will be feeling a bit better soon and be able to get up, poor girl. That must be so hard for her.
