Do you have any Questions for me??

Maybe we can start a dialogue where you ask me a health/life style question. Or even a question about what I like to do with my free time or what books I like to read. Then I will ask you a question.
They can be light to intense questions, enough to start a meaningful dialogue about LIFE. We are here, and we are here together. So what's up?

OK.
My Misty is my sister. That's it. I always wanted a sister and now I've got one.
After fleeing from gangsters in her early years, and surviving Parvo, she ended up with me.
The first time I took her out into the woods, something indescribable happened. I saw her literally "come alive"  and a part of her I had never seen before unfolding like the petals of a flower on time-lapse film. There was a dog who was experiencing the wilderness for the first time in her life. No more street corners, no more roaring traffic, no more pavements.
So she stayed with me. I gave her the open spaces, and I gave her a good safe den at night, and I gave her decent food.

She is a lovely dog. She is gentle, sociable, easy going and intelligent. She loves to meet other dogs, but has a tremendous sense of "fairness" -so if another dog doesn't follow the etiquette she holds dear, or tries in any way to take advantage of her, (over-zealous butt-sniffing which won't take "no" for an answer, or otherwise giving her a hard time) -I'm afraid she will let them know about it. I like that in her. She is gentle and fair but won't let other dogs push her around.

Her boyfriend is called Jet. Now he is a big scruffy farm dog, and visits us on a regular basis from the neighbour's farm just up the two back fields. Jet and Misty are like an old married couple. Well they've been together since 2001.

Misty's favourite things in the whole world are (in this order) food, her home family(me) and boyfriend Jet, Frisbee, mole-hills, and walks walks walks....

I love my little sister. Very much indeed. I feel as though there is a Soul who has come to ride along in life with me. I am very blessed.

My Turn!! I have been waiting for the weekend to give the pups in my life the true heartfelt thanks they deserve. So, I grew up with a Dalmation-Dachound. Yes a mutt-mix before cross-breeding was in style. She was short and long like a weenie dog, but all spotted like a dalmation. In my mind i can still see where all 108 spots were on her funny body. Her name was Mz.Barker, probably because she barked a lot in her puppy days. When a child says their best friend is their dog, it is the truth. I was surrounded by Humans that loved me dearly, but in an Italian family everyone talked talked talked, and as I whispered my heart to Mz. Barker she listened. she licked my forehead until I fell asleep. My parents often got her other dogs as play mates, but honestly I don't remember them and I know she took more interest in my sister and I. She always made me feel special.
I think Mz. B making me feel special, validated, and loved unconditionally had a HUGE part in my decision to become a full time petsitter during a violent depression. I didn't like myself, I thought all other Humans, including my family didn't like me. I was getting professional help, but i need to DO something to feel I was alive. I needed to DO something to get me out of bed. Well, an angel, a true angel named Annette W., was going through her own battles of dealing with terminal Lymphoma. She had a dog named Milley, a king Charles Spaniel. As I was walking by her bright pink house hoping milley would be playing outside, Annette was sitting on the porch. She invited me in for tea and that was I know, the very beginning of my recovery. She restored my dignity and self-respect by asking if I would take care of Milley while she went to Seattle for treatments. I was beyond honored. Milley reminded me of mz. Barker in someway. I knew she would listen to me, not give advice and love me like I had not loved myself in a long long time. It got to the point where Annette stayed in Seattle for longer and longer periods of time, eventually being admitted to the hospital long term. I took the best care of Milley and was forced to take good care for myself in turn.
The night Annette passed over the rainbow, Milley crawled up under my chin and whined a sweet mournful mewl. I let my tears fall heavy, withou tabandon. I cried for the first time in months, I didn't realize how numb depression had made me. Milly licked my tears and my forehead until I fell asleep. My girl, brown and white, with the softest ears I have ever felt on a pup, was given to a family who still keeps in touch.
Milley saved my life. Plain as day, dark as night. If I didn't have to care for her, I would have had no responsibility and thus no purpose. Milley saved my life.
Word of mouth and people in my small town saw me walking Milley everyday began to ask if I was available to care for their pets, in their own home. I could not refuse. I have taken care of over 80 dogs and cats in the past 10 years!!! I have so many funny stories to share. And photos too, as I have taken photos of every dog I bonded with.
I really look forward to sharing more experiences, and compassion with this little board. We are all here at MedHelp for a reason, and we have been brought together here to maybe ease the burdens of our ailments. Our dogs are not just pets, They are family <3

Keep in Touch,

We only have one dog, a lab/boder colllie mix named Lexie.. She is twelve, but runs like a two year old.  Her favorite pastime is herding our cats, which keeps her busy because we have seven.  We had a Sheltie, Mollie, and didn';t plan on another dog, but my son split up with his girlfriend and moved into an apartment, so Mom got Lexie.  Lexie and Mollie hated each other, and there were times that Lexie would attack Mollie, and the result was a vet visit.  When Mollie died two years ago, Lexie was lost without her, I don't know if it was because there was no one to dominate any more, but she totally changed after that.  She will not let you out of her site now.  As much as I love Lexie, Leo, a cat, is my favorite.  He was found on the side of the road three years ago, and could no longer stand, he was so ill.  I thought he had rabies, he was so bad looking. I didn't think you could bond with a cat the same way as a dog, but I have with Leo.  I don't think he knows hes a cat.  We are so close that  I joke that if he ever has kidney failure, he can have one of mine.

Where do I start...?
I came to Medhelp when I had my Beloved and Faithful Companion of 15 years..euthanized due to her kidney failure. TwoBits was my tenacious little Yorkshire Terrier, whose Photo you will see next to my name.
After the loss of TwoBits, I am down to having 3 dogs. One chihuahua named Dewey, and 2 Boxers. The female boxer is a reverse brindle, her name is Backseat....The male boxer is a Fawn with white coloring...his name is Paycheck.  We all reside in Northern Minnesota, and we are fortunate enough to live in the country on 20 acres.
Dewey came to us 4 years ago... shortly after we lost 2 of our dogs within 3 months of each other. I originally wanted to name him Grasshopper, because he would jump up and try to catch the grasshoppers that were in our yard. My husband was not fond of the name, so, I sat on the front steps with this new little puppy, trying to come up with some other kind of name that would "suit" him. As I sat there, with this new little puppy, I was wondering if I did the right thing by getting another pup so soon after our recent loss, I was asking myself...(out loud of course)...Do we want him? Do we Need him?
Do we know what we are doing? ...along with several other "Do We" questions. Every time I would ask myself another question, he (Grasshopper)..hee heee... would tilt his head. The pup seemed to like the whole Do We thing, and so did the Hubby. So he is called Dewey...(aka..Grasshopper )...yeah I know, I just can't let that Grasshopper name go.. ;-)  Since TwoBits is gone, Dewey seems to think she left him in charge..! Dewey can be a mean little cuss...and does not hesitate to let the boxers know if they are doing something he does not approve of. He quickly grabs them by their lips...lucky for Dewey the boxers tolerate his  " little man syndrome."
Now my Boxers....
Backseat was a puppy mill rescue. She was 6 months old when I got her.
We arranged a Pick-up and traveled 2 hrs to get her. We put her in the Backseat, and she traveled like a pro..! She seemed to be in Love with the backseat of the truck. Not once on our 2 hr trip back home, did even try to get off of the seat. She just sat there looking out the window. We got home, and she did not want to leave the seat..So she earned the name of Backseat. She is 4 yrs old, and still loves the backseat of the truck...she would sit there for days if we let her..!  When we got her,She was infested with worms, throwing them up and spraying them out...thousands of them. She had a gash on her head, and her head seems to have a lot of scar tissue under the skin. Both of her eyes have spots in them..possibly from injury. It is suspected that she may have been bred for fighting. The first 6 months we had her, she had a urinary infection that that would not go away..so I often wonder if the worm infestation has done any type of internal damage. Backseat is very protective, and will quickly become aggressive towards people and other dogs she does not know.
Paycheck came from a reputable breeder. He got his name because..yeah, that's right...I spent my entire Paycheck to buy him.
He was the runt of the litter. He is 3 years old and has grown up to be the clown in the family. He is constantly on the move, and all he wants to do is play. He would love to spend his whole day outside, but boxers don't handle Winters in Minnesota very well. Paycheck is allergic to insects, and any type of bee sting will cause a severe reaction. He immediately starts to get hundreds of quarter size hives..You can actually watch them develop, and his head swells up to the size of a basketball. Needless to say, I have to keep a very close eye on him in the summer.
That's it for my family....
Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories...I have loved reading them....
WHO'S NEXT...?

Ok, my turn I think. Giro is a part-Rottie, part something else because we are somewhat uncertain about his parentage. He's like a Rottie in his face but about half the size of that breed. He was really my partner's dog - though when he got Giro, it was me that carried him to the vet for his check-up and vaccinations, carefully wrapped up inside my coat. At that time, I could hold him in one hand, he was that small. Since then, and since my partner and I started living together 5yrs ago, Giro has become mostly my dog and my shadow. He follows me everywhere I go.

He is the most affectionate dog I have ever had - and just wants to be stroked and cuddled. He's not even that bothered about who does it, just as long as someone is. I take him to the beach most days where he absolutely loves to run about, particularly if other dogs are about. Giro isn't the brightest spark in the box and tends to think all dogs are as friendly as he is, so he bounds up to them wanting them to play. This makes me sometimes a bit nervous, because as we all know not all dogs are happy with other dogs running up to them.

He lost his best friend, my beautiful lurcher BB, in November. She had kidney failure and passed away very quickly. BB was smart enough to recognise Giro's weaknesses, particularly his lack of intelligence. If she wanted his bed and he was refusing to get out of it for her, she would run into the hallway and bark at the front door (even though no one was there). The intention always worked,m because Giro would then run up to the front door and bark and bark and bark - while BB simply about turned and went to lie in his bed. Eventually Giro would come back into the living room, look at BB as if to say, darn, I've been 'had' again.

They were the very best of friends and never had a disagreement. I miss BB dreadfully, but Giro has somehow managed to fill the void and continues to do so. He is just simply the best friend and companion anyone could wish to have.

Hello, This is antonellaBella.
I just wrote the best piece on how lucky I am that my question about questions ended up in this doggie dog world, but it ran away before I could post`. I am a full time pet-sitter, but for now I must curl up like a kitty and snuzzle in to dream. I will rewrite my hello very soon.

I am looking forward to sharing stories, memories, photos, and friendships.

I guess I'll start the ball rolling here.  :)

My hubby and I share our lives with a small pack of cats and a Collie puppy named Adam.  Adam is 14 weeks old and a rescue.  He came to live with us from Iowa.  He was from a litter of 7 and when he was a few days old, one of his littermates decided to nurse on his right hind paw instead of on the mother and the suction from the puppy nursing was so severe that it actually removed three toes from his right back foot!  Because of the accident his breeder was worried that they would never find a home for him and didn't know what to do with him, but his picture was just SO precious that we couldn't resist him so he came to live with us.

He was flown in on February 5 and I picked him up at Hobby airport where he was carried out to me in his travel crate by a flight attendant.  The flight attendant told me that he was so cute and had been so good and quiet while waiting to be loaded on the plane that they took the carrier into the cockpit instead of loading it with baggage so he got to fly to Houston in style!

He has a small issue with his rear paw because of the loss of the toes.  When he's in the house and just walking you would never know there is anything amiss, but when he is outside on hard surfaces and trotting or running, every few steps he'll skip.  It's the cutest thing to see but he doesn't do it all that much any more because, just as the vet promised, as the pad on the bottom of his  paw is getting toughened up, he is using the paw more and more.  He still has one toe on that foot plus the big central pad.  The vet said that as he gets older and spends more time walking outside that the pad would build up a callus and would no longer be sensitive and it looks like they were absolutely right when they said that.

Adam is a sable and white boy.  He is white factored   He has perfectly tipped ears and just the most DARLING personality!  He is smart, obedient, he gets along great with the cats and I couldn't ask for a better puppy!  I AM anxious to see how gorgeous he is going to be when he is full grown but I can wait to see that.  They are puppies for such a short time, I am enjoying every minute of his puppyhood while it's still here.  It will be gone before we know it!

Adam's picture is in the pictures on my profile.  The photo on my avatar is my Katie, the collie that lived with me until she passed over the Rainbow Bridge last May.  The Collie is the only breed for me.  I have tried to live with others and they are just not Collies.  I have discovered that I am very one-track-minded when it comes to what breed I can live with I'm afraid to say.

Maybe, though, we could use the thread to tell everyone about our dogs.  We could "introduce" our dogs to everyone so that we can all be familiar with everyone's fur family.  Good idea?

Hi AntonellaBella,
That does sound like a cool idea. A wonderful way to get to know others, and more about yourself at the same time.
But I have a feeling this would be better in another Forum... such as maybe the MedHelp Social Community?
