Dog crying and acting weird.

Hi, I have a 2 year old Australian Shepherd and Blue Heeler mix. She is a very happy and active dog. I don't think she is sick because she is eating regularly, voiding regularly, and is not throwing up. However, a couple weeks ago she started doing some weird behavior. It started out as crying and hiding under my arms or behind me. Now shes walking half way down my hallway and crying when i go up to her to see whats wrong she always go to one of our hall closets and cries at it door. I've looked inside the closet and there is nothing in there. She is doing this multiple times a day now, especially if we are not in the room with her. At first I thought she was experiencing anxiety and i tried to calm her and pet her but nothing is stopping this behavior. Anyone else experience this or think it could be something more?

P.S I have not taken her to a vet because she does not appear sick, nor does she like car rides. She always has thrown up in car rides and shakes every time she gets in the car. Considering the nearest vet is an hour away I figured if possible I would like to save her of that ride.

Does she do this on and off throughout the day and night or only certain times?  Inside and outside?

only when shes inside and it gets worse at night but she sometimes does it during the day. Today when I came home from work I found her in part of the house she never goes in crying back there. No idea how she got back there because she refuses to walk on wood flooring and when I went to pick her up she pee'd herself a little which is odd for her. I'm starting to think it' anxiety again
