My dog was chasing after raccoons. Hit a gopher hole and pulled her acl and the lateral patella, we are scheduling surgery, it's so expensive and the Orthopedic surgeon can't get to her for a week. She is taking 1/2 ofa 7.5 mg melodicam, vet won't be back in till Monday could I also give her a Valium the vet gave her for fireworks to make her more comfortable. Thanks Mamatazz0

What size dog is this???? If this is a small dog, surgery for ACL tears is no longer recommended!!! For large dogs, it is!!! The Patella Luxation should be graded from 1-5.....What grade is your dog's??? Surgery is only used on grades 4 & 5.....

If you've got a Vet screaming for immediate surgery, you need to proceed with caution.....Plus, since your Vet will be back tomorrow, he/she needs to get your dog's pain under control...The metacam is not strong enough in the beginning stage of this kind of injury....
