MY GERMAN SHEPHERDS EAR

I have a year old German Shepherd, one of his ears is lazy. Most of the time it flops down but
when he goes out for a walk he does hold it up at times. Been to the vet and she says that there is
nothing wrong with his ear. I know by this time his ear probably won't stand up at all. Is there a surgery
to ractify this issues? He is a wonderful Dog and we love him how he is but if there is something that could
be done to fix that ear it would be great.

Maybe he will put it up later. We will love him just the same!
Thanks, everyone for your replies.

I'm sorry. I meant to type "if there isn't any underlying problem". I should have let my dog type it out.  LOL

Dan,

Other than my Bulldog I have raised Shepherds all my life. I got my first when I was 6 years old. Two of them had a lazy ear as you describe until they were about 18 months old. Then they just put it up on their own.

There is a surgery that the Vet can do to cut it but it is not necessary to do that if there is any underlying problem. Especially when he is putting it up when he wants to.

Remember: Love your dog because he or she loves you unconditionally. You will never find a better friend in your entire life.

I second that!  And I'm sure he's adorable, flop-eared or not.

Unless you are planning to show him, I wouldn't worry about it at all.  Maybe there's some weak cartilage or muscle tissue in a particular area, but that is a "fault" that can happen with any dog.  I love the look of dogs who have one "crazy" ear - it adds character!  :-)
