I had trusted this vet for almost 10 years. But there were a few times I felt doubt. Im pretty darn sure I will be finding a new clinic for my other 2 dogs.
In my opinion, if there is ever the slightest doubt about the work a vet does....it is time to change to another vet! You need to have 100% confidence about the advice and medications they give.
I'm lucky, I have a decent vet. But I definitely do that with dentists.
Sudden Gas & Loose stools clearly is a digestive issue.....However, I assume you have not changed anything foodwise?
Again, Stress & anxiety can cause all of this....From the abrupt change (Losing a friend) in his life....I'd give it some time......Karla
I just found out that the Metroyzadol (sp.?) is not supposed to be prescribed to dogs with liver issues. And according to the records, they were concerned about Nestles liver 1 year before prescribing the drug, and yet they never told me.
I will be taking Wubbzy to another vet if his issues continue. Meanwhile I will give him the yogurt. We gave that to Nestle a few times way back when and also to my son....LOL It worked for my son! Thank you for your advice!
Thank you for your thoughts. You actually made total sense to me. The vet would say it was normal, and that Wubbzy is probably eating Molly's poo too. And I know for a fact he wasnt.
I will keep you updated about wubbzy. You are probably right about him missing Nestle. The only concern I have now, is that he is releasing smelly gas and also having very loose stools.
Thank you so much for your concern!
Metronidazole is processed by the Liver, but released from the system through the Kidneys & Feces....So, yes I think Wubbzy has been getting a small dose (If he ate poop daily)...However, I wouldn't think it's enough to cause a Toxicity effect...
Since Nestle was having Digestive Problems and probably not absorbing his protein & nutrients, your Wubbzy looked at this poo as a food source....In all honesty, it was food!!!Normally, poop is a waste product, but in a sick dog with a compromised digestive system, the waste product is not waste, but actual food that was not processed...Did that make sense?
Could Wubbsy's Neurological Issues be that he is mourning the loss of his friend? Dogs do mourn & it's very hard on them to lose a loved one....Be it people or pet.....
That's my thoughts...Please let us know how it's going....Again, I'm sorry for your loss....Karla
It may not exactly have 'poisoned' him, but he could just possibly have developed some of the side effects.
Definitely speak to your vet. But also a very good thing to give Wubbsy would be a "Pro-biotic" (to restore his natural gut bacteria which need to be there, as antibiotics kill them off.)
Now either you can get a Pro-biotic from the vet, when his case has been assessed fully. Or after talking to the vet, you could simply give Wubbsy some natural "Live" yogurt. It would have to be the kind of yogurt that contains the natural bacteria, and it would have to be the plain variety, not fruity one. You might get this easily in a big store, or go to a health food store for it, if not.
You could give him a dessertspoonful about twice or three times a day, for a week or so.
That will help his general health, and his immune system. A large part of the immune system actually works from the gut!
Yes, Metrondiazole. You are right about the low doses. I just called the emergency. Wubbzy has been eating Nestles poop for a year or more. Ya gotta wonder why Wubbzy only ate Nestles poo and not Molly's? Nestle was on those meds for diaherral. Im keeping a close watch on Wubbzy. Thank you so much for your response!
Do you mean METRONIDAZOLE?
If so, this is an antibiotic.
Metronidazole effectively fights anaerobic infections, infections growing without the presence of oxygen. Anaerobic bacterias cause infections that occur at surgery sites, in the mouth, the gastrointestinal tract, deep wounds or tissues, the vagina and internal organs. As an antibiotic, it fights against certain gastrointestinal parasites, especially Giardia.
Metronidazole is also used successfully as an anti-inflammatory drug, particularly in the large intestine, where it counteracts nonspecific diarrhea and treats irritable bowel syndrome. Veterinarians prescribe this drug for periodontal disease, tetanus and pancreatic insufficiency with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
There can be a variety of side effects, some of them can be neurological. Though these are rarer.
It is very possible that Wubbsy may have taken some of this on board, if he ate Nestle's poop for quite a while. He may have been getting regular ,low doses. I think so anyway -though am not 100% sure how much would pass out in the feces.
I think the best plan would be to take your Wubbsy to the vet, explain what has been happening, and see what the vet advises.
