Our Shitzu is in congestive heart failure

Reading everyone's post has been helpful and my heart goes out to all of you. We were told our baby, age 11,is in stage 3 of chf. He was given Furosemide. Can someone tell me what to expect and is there anything I can do to help him during this time. The cough that he had for 2 months that I thought was from allergies has gone away after 4 days of meds. He seems to be sad but I am wondering if I am reflecting because I am the one so sad. I wonder what time line we have with him. The vet really stayed away from the question but did give hope in a way but wondering if he saw it was to much shock that day as it was. Thank you on any help you can give in what you have gone thru with your beloved pets.
