Newly Developed Urination Issue

I have a female boxer, Approx. 3-5 years old. She is the best behaved dog I've ever adopted. Other than i little begging for human food, she is great. Housebroken, follows instructions, does a few tricks. Recently noticed to things that bother me. 1> she has taken to occasionally urinating on the carpet, ever if we (my wife or I) are in the process of letting her out she will sometime pee right in front of us. 2> I've noticed she is drinking A LOT of water, 2-4 one quart bowls daily. Please help, I love her too much to have to lock her outside with cold weather coming.

I agree with Margot49...

A urine check is in order to rule out any infection that may be causing the behavior.  Getting her urine checked will be the easiest and least expensive. I would do that first. You should be able to collect a sample at home, and drop it off at the vets to have it examined.
If the results are negative for an infection, you really need to get some blood work done ASAP. Increased water consumption, and urination, are early signs of kidney disease. Blood work will assess her kidney function.

Now, I know I may be getting a little ahead of myself here, but...  if the blood work comes back within the normal limits, then I guess my next step would be to check into the possibility of Cushings syndrome. Cushings Disease is something that Boxers are at a high risk of developing. The disease usually begins when a dog is in it's middle ages..which your boxer is.  Increased thirst and urination, are some of the signs.

Best wishes for you and your dog... Let us know how things go.

By the way....Boxers are great dogs.... ( I currently have 2 )
Thanks for adopting...!

Connie

How long have you had her? Sounds like a nice dog and you sure don't want her outside in Winter.
That is a lot of water consumption.  It would be a good idea to take her into the Vet fir an exam, blood work and probably a urine check to see if something is going on.
