Puzzled about death

My dog suddenly died early this morning. I was awakened by a crying/howling (sort of) noise. As I woke out of my sleep, the haunting sound got fainter and stopped. I was not sure if it came from inside or outside my house, but i had a bad feeling that it might be one of our dogs. My husband went downstairs and discovered that indeed one of the dogs was dead. She was still warm. She looked like she was sleeping except her tongue was out on the floor. I was devastated! She was fine when we went to sleep. She was 14, a lab/border collie mix, and she had some pain in her hips, but she was not acting different at all. I am shocked and puzzled about her sudden death. Could it have been something she ate? There was no vomit. She was still in her bed. Could it have been a heart attack? I'm guessing whatever it was, it caused some pain and was over. It breaks my heart that she is gone. And I am also thankful that she did not have months of suffering and pain, as she was getting older. But I just don't know what happened. I am just so sad. Thank you.

My dog died suddenly this morning. I feel your pain. I did hear a yelping type bark as well but figured he was barking at a bike rider which was his normal. I wish I could give you answers, but I'm at a loss as well. I hope like you do that it was quick. Can't stand the thought he was in pain either. May you find happiness in your memories :(

I don't have any answers to help you, other than I'm sorry.  We also have a lab/border collie, who is 15, and also has no problems other than pain in the hips.  Getting up can be difficult, and so are stairs, but not that bad.  I know your heartbroken because shes gone, but find comfort in knowing it was fast, and you didn't have to make that decision for her.  That seldom happens.  I really hope it will be that way with our girl, too.
