Shih-Tzu attacked by Rottweiler

Hi!
Can anyone help me, my Shih-Tzu was attacked three days ago by a Rottweiler.  Luckily the Rottweilers' owner got a hold of her quickly and at first my dog was unbelievably okay! NO BLOOD! No puncture wounds, etc.  She actually walked away with me on her leash with her tail up, she just seemed a little shaken is all.  Because she seemed okay I did not take her to the vet.  The only thing I have noticed is that she is yelping some (not a lot, maybe twice a day).  Could this be the dog broke a rib or something.  Should I take her to the vet? She is eating, drinking water and going to the bathroom.  She just seems a little more timid than before.  Any help greatly appreciated.

This response comes a little late but I would take the shih tzu to a vet.  A rottie jumped through a screen door and attacked my Akita and Siberian husky, who were in  a double harness.  I called animal control because this rottie had done this before.  The solution was pretty basic - they had him neutered.   But our Akita and husky are still not comfortable with rotties.  Our shih tzu (yep, got one of them too) likes to run up to rotties who are on a leash and bark in their faces.  It comes down to responsible pet  ownership and being alert to what is going on - which is why Mr. Macho shih tzu is not  allowed to bark in stranges dogs' faces.  Shih tzus are tough little guys but no match for a big, aggressive dog.

She may just be battered and bruised and sore.  It wouldn't hurt to have a vet take a look though.

Quick question: how did this attack happen?  You mention your dog trotted away with her tail up in the air.  That raises red flags with me that it was likely your dog who started the confrontation.  It happens that way a lot because people just assume the smaller dog is harmless and the big dog is the bully because he finishes the fight.  Just hoping to get more info so you can stop another fight before it starts.  :-)

I would take her to the vet just to be sure there wasn't any internal damage (like a rib).  Most likely nothing, but for peace of mind and for the best of your dog.  You were very lucky that your dog wasn't badly hurt...Thank God!  Best to you
